You can make a list like that for any team that misses the playoffs by such a slim margin. Hell, I can make an even longer one with the Steelers (I'll spare y'all that nonsense). But did anybody lie down and hand the Texans any of their nine victories? No. The Jets can't make that same claim.

But as I said, I'm more disgusted with how the Jets got in than some injustice against any team that was left out.

Final was 17 -14 they only needed FG to tie. If they kicked deep and held they would have got ball back with 40 seconds.
Plenty of time to get in FG range.

It's a judgment call. Which do you trust more? Your ability to get the onside kick or your ability to get a 3-and-out?

At least the Super Bowl should be a good game as long as Indy beats the Jets.

I agree it's appalling that the Jets got in the way they did. But my point was, the Texans had plenty of chances to get 10 wins instead of nine -- just by executing a couple basic plays, not through any convoluted chain of events -- and make this argument moot.
The Texans repeatedly shitting the bed had as much to do with the Jets getting in as the Colts and Bengals laying down. Some teams just live a charmed life.

Kick it deep and you need a three-and-out.
Kick it onside and don't recover, you need a three-and-out.
Kick it onside and recover it, you've got the ball.
I just don't see how there's a risk in kicking it onside in that spot.

    Did you WATCH Kaeding?

    They needed a TD

    Try to get the possession.

Ninety-nine percent of the time, a stop on three downs gets the job done, either way.

I see your point as well. I'm just saying you can usually find a few plays like that for a 9-7 team.

No team has ever had TWO consecutive teams lay down to allow another into the playoffs.

Hopefully, karma will coldcock them in the future.

Look, I love knocking the Jets as much as anyone. I don't dislike them, but their history of epic chokage demands skepticism once Black Friday hits. But they went 5-1 down the stretch, and the loss came on a 4th down TD in the final minutes of a game in which they lost 10-7. As much as the Colts and Bengals assured they'd make the playoffs, the Jets are legit and deserved the playoff berth more than any of the other riff raff that were vying for the AFC wild card spots.
