He would have if the regular season is any indication. I believe it was week five when the Colts spanked the Titans 31-9, but Peyton was throwing late in the fourth quarter and extended his streak of 300-yd games. Andrea Kremer asked him about it and Peyton did the whole aww shucks I had no idea bullshit routine.

He's as much of an attention whore (hey Peyton, would you like to do a TV commercial for my baseball card store?) and as much about himself as Favre, but as the son of NFL royalty, he's a little smarter and slicker about it than Favre. Still nice when he slips up and reveals the real Peyton, as he did against the Titans and after the Steelers loss a few years ago when he threw his O-line under the bus.

What did they gain with that last TD?

And as for this running up the score bullshit...do what you want and Rick is right that it's not against the law, but the bill always comes due. The Patriots have been paying for it since the waning seconds of Super Bowl 42. I can only imagine what will happen the second Favre actually retires and his deal with the devil expires, never mind what will happen to Brad Childress. He better hope there's a dinner theatre group somewhere that needs someone to play a serial killer.

    *Heavy sigh*

Is the point of a football game to win? To score points?

Shouldn't Dallas have stopped the Vikings from scoring? I dunno, maybe, PLAY DEFENSE??

[putting on my fangirl hat for a moment]

I've read last two or three pages with the whining about the Vikings running up the score. Yes, I have hated and I mean HATED the Cowboys since 1975 (and a little pass interference non-call which has been shoved in my face all week.) There was the Hershel Walker trade and we won't even mention the theft of our hockey team.

To soundly defeat Dallas, yeah, it's a good thing. A VERY good thing. We Vikings fans had to listen to how all week our team was gonna get stomped by the Cowboys.

Now I have never hit my dislike for He Who Shall Not Be Named and the most pathetic head coach the Vikings have had this side of Les Steckel. And I will still be thrilled beyond belief when both are gone. It won't be soon enough.

But this is not high school or pony league, this is professional playoff football. These are big boys getting paid a hell of a lot of money - more than any of us will most likely see in a lifetime - and I'll be damned if I'm gonna feel a damn bit sorry for them. Very improbable that Dallas could come back and win, but seems to me I remember a Houston Oilers vs. Buffalo Bills game from 1992 or so (my memory fails me right now, I might not even have the teams right), but there was an impossible comeback in that playoff game.

All it would have taken yesterday is a very weird series of circumstances, but...

And if winning by a 31 points is such a horrific thing, how come there's not an outcry every time an NFL team loses by that margin? Why not an outcry on Dallas thrashing Philly not once but two weeks in a row?

Rant over, I'm going back to watching the Wild game.

Not all 31-point margins of victory are created equally. It sounds funny, but it's true.

Oh, for fuck's sake -- yes, yes because the Vikings are worried about what the Cowboys may or may not do in a matchup that may or may not happen NEXT FUCKING YEAR.

This is silly, this is the NFL -- hell if nothing else to steal a line from Billy Tubbs -- "had the Packers taken a knee, that's point shaving and Brad Childress could go to jail for that......"
