No they aren't. The union is weak as shit and none of the players wants to sit out for what amounts to 25 percent or more of their career.

 

True, but with all that Goodell's done to fuck them over in the last few years, they're not going to be willing to give in as easy.

 

They don't negotiate with Goodell. They negotiate with Jerry Jones and Bob Kraft, who kick their asses up and down the field.

 

But Goodell's behavior is going to be a topic they'll want to discuss. And will Kraft be so willing to defend his buddy as strongly as before?

 

It's not about defending his buddy, it's about money and control.

 

Do you think they really care if the commissioner or an arbitrator decides on punishments? Especially after the commissioner keeps getting slapped around by the legal system?

They care about money and they care about control only so far as how it makes them money. They didn't care about punishments until the lack of them was hurting them in bad publicity, which they feared would hurt them in their wallets.

 

What does any of that have to do with CBA negotiations and Kraft defending Goodell?

This is really simple, the owners want to make as much money and have as much control as possible. If Goodell is still commissioner do you think Kraft will all of a sudden be championing the NFLPA?

 

What Goodell's fuck-ups do is give the union a bargaining chip to use against the owners. Whereas before, the issue of punishments may not have seemed as important, now it's a major issue because Goodell overstepped his bounds.
