Murray has turned down a 4-year, $64 million extension. To be fair, I have no idea how much of that is guaranteed, but I would guess about half of it.

The franchise tag for running backs was $9.54 million.

They rode Murray like a rented mule and won't be risking any long term deal with him.

My best guess is the Cowboys will lock up Dez and franchise Murray if Peterson doesn't come free. If Murray magically stays healthy in 2015 and has a good attitude about the franchise tag, he'll be a bargain.

That's as high as Dallas will go on a long-term deal for Murray.

There's a really good chance the Cowboys will have to use the franchise tag on Bryant, who has made it clear there will be no hometown discount.

Tim Ryan, the old Fox analyst who is now the 49ers' radio color guy, says the team has "a big decision to be made" on Kaepernick.

49ers radio analyst Ryan: 'Big decision to be made' on Kap | CSN Bay Area

This might be more than just a little radio chatter. One staple of Jed York taking over is that his team-affiliated media voices spout the company line, often before it's publicly known as the company line. Ted Robinson, Ryan's broadcast partner, got himself suspended two games for floating the 49ers' Ray McDonald excuses as trial balloons on KNBR.

As I noted in the coaching thread, Jed and Tomsula wore matching suits at the latter's introductory newser today ...

Jones made comments yesterday that keeping Bryant and Murray was possible, but probably didn't make sense.

Murray is as good as gone.

The Cowboys can clear up to $10 million in cap space by cutting loose Henry Melton and Brandon Carr. Melton never touched the field in December and Carr was at best average. I still think Murray will be franchised as Plan B, but Plan A is Peterson.

Carr might have reached average in his dreams this season. But probably not.

I thought he had three years left on his contract, though, and he's making $12 million-plus, I think. Even if they cut him in June, that's still a big hit, no?

And franchising Murray is a $10 million cap hit. I'm not sure they'll go there. I'm still not convinced Peterson will be available.

It's a no-brainer. If they don't keep both, no way in hell they let Bryant go. Murray just hit his ceiling.

Maybe they think that with good O-Line Joseph "Underpants" Randle can give them results similar to
    Murray.
