Detroit Lions hiring Brad Holmes as general manager

 

Not that this could or should save Fichtner's job, but one thing I will say about this play call is that at least for once, in a short yardage situation -- 3rd/4th and less than 2, a team actually gives it to the fullback heading right toward the line of scrimmage, instead of the ubiquitous tailback semi-draw play, where the QB makes the handoff to the running back five yards deep in the backfield.
If you've gotta gain six inches, why the flaming hell drop back so the tailback has to gain five yards to get back to the line of scrimmage?

The problem wasn't that he did it. The problem was that he ran the exact same play on third-and-one two consecutive times.

Not sure if it goes in hoops or here, but, the WNBA'S Las Vegas Aces have been purchased by Mark Davis.

So, has "just win baby" become words that could be construed as a hostile work environment?

 

Always wondered why more owners didn't buy other more minor teams in their markets. Gives your marketing repsand PR staff something to do in the off-season, provides a way in to demos that may not be a big part of the more major team and gives sponsors access to the same.

 

A few of the background stories say that Daddy Al was a huge fan of women's basketball, which makes it kind of curious why the Raiders didn't get behind putting a WNBA team in the Bay Area at some point.

As far as what it means right now, probably nothing. The WNBA itself is on hospice-care life support with the nuclear winter effect of COVID on the big daddy NBA; I'd guess there's a non zero chance they'll never play again.

Assuming they do, and discounting the idea the whole thing is just a hobby for Mark Davis, I suppose it might give him an entree into the discussion when and if a serious bid is made for an NBA franchise in Vegas.

 

Probably because they're often money-losing operations.
