Has it been made public if Watson's disenchantment with the Texans arose after he was contacted by the plaintiffs' lawyer?

So all the time and energy wasted on "QB roulette" seems to have been wasted. Russell is sticking in Seattle, Watson seems like he'll be lucky even to take a snap in Houston this season (NFL penalties alone, never mind potential criminal filings) and the big movers were Dalton to the Bears and Fitzgerald to DC? Perhaps the Bears and DC make big moves on Draft Day, but dang...

Well, Stafford and Goff were the biggest movers. And Wentz is still a bigger fish than Dalton or Fitzpatrick.

I've already forgotten Stafford and Goff - and Wentz. I'm not sure if the Rams trade raised expectation or ruined the market because every wanted more for their underachieving QB. While people saw Brady winning the Super Bowl as a "wow - we can get a new QB and win the SB" I think a lot of GMs saw it as - if we move our QB and he wins a SB elsewhere I look like a huge idiot. Good thing Belichick has the rings - I still don't know how you allow Brady to leave if you don't have a viable back-up.

    Brady was a free agent.

I mean, maybe the Pats limp into the playoffs if they have Brady, but you're acting like they let an All-Pro walk or something. Brady's biggest benefit to Tampa Bay was providing average to above-average QB play. Namely, showing how awful Winston really was. They replaced the guy who regularly threw 20+ INTs a year with one who didn't, and they were a lot better. Maybe you can argue that New England doesn't have a bunch of their guys opt out if Brady returns, but I think they had too much decay on their roster to make another Super Bowl run... which is what happens when you essentially win for about 20 years. If you give Robert Kraft and Belichick truth serum, I doubt they really regret not giving Brady $25M to go 9-7.

I just think the mindset of most GMs is fear of doing something that makes them look horrible, rather than being bold. One of the great things about the Rams move was they made the decision, id'd the qb they wanted and did what it took to get him. How many GMs in the league can look at their roster and say - we expect to compete = with a straight face? The way the league is now, you should be able to turn over your roster within three years and have the team you want. How many GMs have been in place for three or more years? QB "failures" cover up a lot of bad moves by GMs.

Sure sounds like it - you don't make that kind of move to draft a LB, usually.
