I thought it was kind of cool for UAB to host a pro day for all the HBCU players who wanted to attend. Happened last week.

Good for him. He's proven that whatever might be said about his pro career he's got a mile of guts.

Alex Smith leaves the NFL just as Urban Meyer joins it.

The legislature will defund UAB entirely by next week.

    The NFL's loss – twice.

And good for Alex Smith. Had guessed that this would be the way to go. Go out playing to prove – to himself if no one else – that he could still do it and to cap off all the work and procedures and more work and more procedures that went into it. Then step away while you still can.

Taking up for the SWAC programs that either didn't have enough players or enough athletic budget or a combination of the two.

    Good for UAB.

I’m wondering if it had more to do with their facilities being tied up while they are in the middle of spring season.

No idea. This says a lot more than I knew. Article says that UAB will continue to host it "for the next few years". The facilities at the new football complex are first class.
