Kansas City is trading its first-round pick Thursday night, along with three other picks in the 2021 and 2022 drafts, to the Baltimore Ravens in exchange for Pro Bowl OT Orlando Brown and one pick in the 2021 draft and another in 2022, per sources.

Chiefs acquire offensive tackle Orlando Brown from Ravens for reported 4 picks, including 2021 first-rounder

The 2021 pick the Chiefs are getting from the Ravens is their No. 2, but Baltimore still improved its draft position a great deal and should be fine up front as long as Stanley comes back healthy.

Looks like a good trade for both sides. I think it’s a fantastic deal for the Chefs. In their win-now window, a proven left tackle is way more valuable than draft choices. And they really didn’t give up all that much —they get Brown for a low first-rounder and swap a 3 and a 4 for Baltimore’s 2 (maybe they grab a right tackle with that pick). Next year, the Ravens get KC’s 5 and the Chefs get Baltimore’s 6.

I think the presence of Mahomes will ensure the Chiefs will be in a win-now mode for at least the duration of his contract. And that has, what, 11 years to run?

Andy Reid is in a win now position, Mahomes has another 10 prime years, at least.

I think RG3 and others have shown that those 11 years can shrink significantly, though, if you're not protecting the asset adequately. And in contrast, Brady was kept pretty clean most of the years he was in New England.

The other piece of it for the Ravens is they are going to sign Alejandro Villanueva to step in at right tackle. If I understand the situation correctly, they are waiting until after the draft so the signing won't figure into the formula for compensatory draft picks next year. As of now, the Ravens would be getting picks. Also, it keeps the Steelers from getting one for losing Villanueva.

Maybe it was the best deal they could get by far, but if you're Baltimore, how do you make a trade that helps the team most likely to be your biggest postseason roadblock?

Because they made a trade that you feel helps you even more.

I don’t think it helps me at all. I do know what you’re trying to say, though. But isn’t the adage that you want to get the best player in the trade? The Ravens didn’t get a player.
