Desire is a broad term. Roethlisberger does not have it in the off season, but on game day, I would say he has more of it than a Brady and some others who will give up on a play if everything isn't perfect or start pouting on the sideline if the ball isn't bouncing the right way.

And these are the main reasons why I love Wilson so much. He gives you both along with the physical tools.

Yeah, that damn Brady. Always out there not giving a shit.

It doesn't have to be mutually exclusive. Montana always looked calm as can be out there, but everyone knew how competitive he was... With Brady, Peyton and Rodgers, even as much as they throw the ball, they don't throw a lot of interceptions.

I agree with Double Down's assertion that Roethlisberger isn't as good as he could be, and he's still pretty damn good...

I think a lot of people would have said the same thing about Favre during the bulk of the Mike Sherman Era.

Vick was another one when he was in Atlanta, who was probably never as good as he could have been.

Brady's manic behavior during games (but not while actually playing) is legendary. He screams at teammates and has had several well-publicized shouting matches with assistant coaches. Whatever works is good. Bart Starr, who did well, never displayed emotion. He had a coach to do that. Eli's penchant for the occasional horrible game is almost surely not related to his attitude.

I would put Flacco's performance in this year's playoffs up against what Roethlisberger did in either of his Super Bowl winning years. Heck, Flacco had 11 TD passes and no interceptions and came up HUGE in road upsets at Denver and New England.

Then he kept his cool and made some really clutch throws in the Super Bowl victory. What else can you ask from a quarterback?

Have to agree. I wouldn't put Flacco up there as the best overall quarterback in the league or anything, but he's certainly come up big when they needed it most. To paraphrase what was once said about Cris Carter, "All he does is win football games."

I didn't see this anywhere else...

Niners agree to trade Alex Smith...

Jason LaCanfora tweeted it, but doesn't know who they're trading him to or what the Niners are getting for him... Most of the speculation is that they're getting a No. 2 or No. 3 from the Chiefs...

Some of the SF beat writers are calling bullshit on the report, including some who are very good, but I seriously doubt LaCanfora is wrong.

Here's at least one of the reports that a deal is not in place yet.

I don't see how it's possible to have a deal in place, at least one that is guaranteed to stick, when the move can't be made until March 12. I guess if you think your word is your bond in the NFL that might be the case, but I don't think that's the way anybody runs a franchise.

The Niners must love this. I'm guessing the deal is Smith for a third-round pick, which I think would be the first or second pick of the round... Now they have the next two weeks to see if anyone will top it, assuming it hasn't completely been agreed upon.

I like the move for both teams. Even if, God forbid, KC is offering a No. 2 for Smith (I seriously doubt this...) it still puts them in a better situation to start looking at Joeckel than to entertain looking at Geno Smith or waiting to see which QBs are left in the second or third round.

It would be a pretty good place for Alex Smith to go as well.

I think the Chiefs and the Niners have a handshake deal in place and that if they back out, they'll lose credibility; word will get around very soon. A 2nd or 3rd from the Chiefs is almost a 1st or 2nd at worst since they have the first choice.

I can see the Chiefs thinking, $8.5M for a somewhat proven starting QB is not a bad deal. Smith's still relatively young, extremely bright and open to coaching.
