I'd be interested to know his YPC early in games as opposed to later in games. Seems his overall number might benefit from carries when the Rams were losing and defenses were backing off.

Oh, no question he would be an upgrade, but I'm guessing they are going to look to the draft to address that issue.

Apparently the Cardinals are interested in Alex Smith.

I know McNabb was traded to a team in the same division, but I think unless the Cardinals are making a crazy offer, I don't see any way the Niners would agree to this.

Would you rather have a 3 from KC or a 2 from Arizona?

@JayGlazer: 49ers have completed a trade with the Chiefs for Alex Smith, tho can't be official til March 12. Chiefs really made a commitment to Smith

Matt Cassell just called a realtor, and doesn't know why.

I think that move is preferable than overdrafting a QB.

Smith could do a lot worse than to work with a coach like Andy Reid.

It'll be interesting to see how this affects Dwayne Bowe. Seems like it gives him a little more leverage now that they've brought in a new starter and already have an elite RB. He becomes much more of a priority than he was an hour ago.

Schefter says the deal is for a 2nd-rounder this year (No. 34 overall) and a conditional pick next year:

Yeah, that would definitely indicate Cassel is one his way out the door.

I think plenty of teams would be interested in Cassel as a backup.

The question is, how big is his salary cap number? If it's big, he's going to get cut and have to take a major discount. If it's not so bad, then the Chiefs might be able to flip him in a trade. Or am I thinking way too much here?

I don't think anyone is willing to trade for him. Teams will wait for him to be cut.
