Considering the first round busts at QB, I don't think a couple 2s for a guy who has won a couple of playoff games is overpaying.
Of the eight "re-tread QBs" who started in the league last year, two have won Super Bowls (Manning, Brees), one has been in Super Bowls (Hasselback), and five have taken teams to playoffs (Palmer, Schaub, Cassel, Cutler, Vick). I'd say even Kevin Kolb (86.1 passer rating) was an upgrade over what the Cardinals had before.

Singletary begs to differ (of course he's a LB coach now.) (Singletary said QB was not the most important position.)

I concede this point. The other being that Reid made McNabb (and Kolb, and until he turned into a turnover machine, Vick) look 10 times better than he actually was, and I could see him getting the most out of Smith.

As I pointed out earlier, Reid has gotten production out of everyone he's worked with. Whether Smith is good enough to sustain that over the long haul is the question. You can only scheme away a lack of talent for so long.

Certainly, although Charles is the type of runner who doesn't need 20 carries a game to do his damage. He's really a perfect fit. Of course, the concern is aimed more at protecting Smith and not putting him in situations where the defense knows what's coming.

It says a lot about Reid that he made quite a few quarterbacks look good who did little to nothing after they left Philly.

Per Schefter and Glazer, Ravens and Flacco working out a deal for Monday. Apparently the richest contract for a QB.

And it says just as much about Cassel, that Reid looks at him and says, "Fuck that, I may be a miracle-worker, but he is hopeless."

No discussion that the Ravens have decided to make Flacco the highest paid player in the NFL?

Talk about peaking at the right time and bending your team over a barrel.

They almost had to, but I feel confident in saying they won't win another Super Bowl with him as the QB.

He earned it, and it's a horrible contract for the Ravens.

You can easily argue one way or the other and be perfectly correct.

No one in the history of the world ever had better timing than Joe Flacco.

Can't begrudge the kid for getting paid. I suspect he knows this may be his only chance.

The obvious drawback is that now the franchise doesn't have enough money left to resign a number of players on the other side of the ball. So even if Flacco steps up his game the next few years to this past postseason's levels, I don't think it's going to make a difference in the long run.

If there's anyone around here familiar with the organization, can you put the following defenders in order of importance as far as re-signing them goes:

    Ellerbe
    Kruger
    Reed
    Williams
