PFT had something yesterday about the deal being seven years... All the reports out there today are still saying that it's six years... I believe PK over PFT, so maybe it really is just a six-year deal...

They're counting last year's cap number and calling it seven years as a way of saying it's not that bad. But the new contract is a six-year deal.

Either way, he'll be renegotiating it in year three, when his base salary is $28 million. It's just another example of how little numbers mean, like Vick's agent saying he got $100 million, when it was more like $30.

King had something today that said the contract will almost certainly have to be scrapped after three years, because's he'll be owed $29 million in Year 4.

There's part of me that loves this, because the Niners have a few years before they're even allowed to give Kaepernick a new deal and it's obviously the same with Luck and RG3.

Isn't Ryan's deal up after next season? I know Atlanta has to replace some pretty key players, but I don't think it's that far off to think Ryan could do exactly what Flacco did and get a colossal contract after next season.

If I'm the Falcons and Packers, I try to extend Rodgers and Ryan now and hope to get a bit of a discount for doing it early.

I thought King said $52 of Flacco's deal was guaranteed and was all due the first two years...

    I'm still totally stunned...

Winning a Super Bowl is such a confluence of events, and so many things have to go right (like the Broncos derping their coverage in the final minute) that winning one ring every 10 years is actually still a decent percentage.
You just try to put yourself in position to contend regularly. With Flacco, the Ravens will win 10 games pretty much every year. Maybe more, but rarely less. That's what makes the Steelers, Patriots, Ravens, Giants, Packers, Colts and now the Niners the leagues upper crust. They won't win every year, but they're unlikely to suffer a 4-year stretch where they don't even make the playoffs. Teams like the Saints, Eagles, Bears, Flacons, Cowboys all occupy the next tier.

The Niners are in a better position than anyone and should continue have a window to win because they can pay Kaepernick like a second round pick in his rookie contract while getting A-level performance from him. They should be the favorites in 2013 and 2014, unless he gets injured or they have two terrible drafts.

Yeah, I can't imagine how the Niners wouldn't be overwhelming favorites next season... That certainly doesn't mean they're going to win it, but since they're worst case scenario is losing Walker and Goldson to free agency and they still have a shitload of picks and a decent amount of cap room, they're in a great position...

So are the Packers, but they have to fix a pathetic offensive line, and replace Woodson's leadership... Greg Jennings won't be that hard to replace since they didn't have him for most of last season...

Of course as soon as they sign Rodgers and Matthews, they're going to be in a similar cap situation as the Ravens... Hard to imagine them letting either of them walk or trading them...

52 bucks? What a bargain! Those Ravens sure are shrewd negotiators.

Having learned nothing from Bryant McFadden, the Steelers are bringing back cornerback William Gay. The real issue being this makes it seem less likely that they will keep Keenan Lewis, who was their best corner this past season.

One day a fourth-grade teacher asked the children what their fathers did
    for a living.

All the typical answers came up - fireman, mechanic, businessman,
    salesman... and so forth.

However, little Justin was being uncharacteristically quiet, so when the
teacher prodded him about his father, he replied, "My father's an exotic
dancer in a gay cabaret and takes off all his clothes to music in front of
other men and they put money in his underwear.

Sometimes, if the offer is really good, he will go home with some guy and
stay with him all night for money."

The teacher, obviously shaken by this statement, hurriedly set the other
children to work on some exercises and took little Justin aside to ask him,
"Is that really true about your father?"
"No," the boy said, "He plays for the Steelers, but it's too embarrassing for
me to have to say that in front of the other kids."

Insert the Browns in there and it might make sense. :)
