Don't they still have Chris Mullin?

Agreed. I think this would be a very good fit for him.

Agreed. He doesn't practice and he's been injured a lot, but he's still one hell of a ballhawk when on the field. Great instincts can make up for a lost step or two.

Any Revis trade has to be contingent on tearing up his current deal and giving him a new one.

Whoever decided it was OK to put the "no franchise tag" into the contract is one of the biggest reasons why this deal hasn't happened yet. I think without that, the Bucs probably would have given up the No. 13 pick. With it in there, they know they can't make a deal without locking him up for the next few years.

Since this didn't happen yesterday, I'm guessing the Jets aren't being offered a No. 1, at least not one from this year.

Also, given the corners who are out there, wouldn't you rather take a chance that Asomugha can play like his old self than give up a No. 1 and more for a guy who you're also going to have to sign to a huge contract.

Whatever deal you give Revis, just be prepared to rip it up in a year and give him yet another one, unless you want him to hold out. Rex Ryan might be a goof, but he made a fair point in the Hard Knocks episode when Revis and his agent scoffed at the Jets offer, grumbling that it was one thing to want a new deal with a year left on his contract, even two years, but Revis was grumbling about a contract that still had THREE years to go. And when the Jets finally did give him what he wanted, he wanted to rip it up again two years later.

Of course it depends on what he's going to cost, but it is a big blow to lose a player just entering his prime like that. The defense relied heavily on its corners last season and Lewis was a big reason why they were able to do it.

To me, this offseason was going to be judged by what they did with Lewis. Wallace was gone and I don't mind that at all. He's far more expensive than he is worth and he regressed in 2012. I'm happy that they kept Foote and Foster, who are both useful veterans if nothing special. I think Lewis is worth spending on, though the real gauge will be to see what he ends up signing for. He's not even the most highly-regarded corner on the market, but he really fits what they do very well. The Steelers seem to have given up on him without much effort to keep him.

Hard to fault Revis for trying to use his leverage to maximize his income. A lot of "good guys" have been cut or asked to reduce their salary for the team after a bad year.

Pollard out in Baltmore. If the Ravens make the playoffs this coming season, just name the exec of the year award after Newsome and retire it.

I don't disagree, Boom. I'm just saying shockey's comment about Revis being happy if he gets a new deal is only half true. Sure, he'll be happy. For a year, until he decides he's underpaid again. I don't GMs begrudge players understanding its a business. But not too many guys grumble about their deals with three years left on them as Revis did.
