More weapons for Manning equal more potential excuses.

So what is the difference between Free Agency and the draft. Do you go for "the guy" in free agency and go for "the position" in the draft?

    Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie to the Broncos.

Um, they're not holding back in Dove Valley.

    John Freakin' Elway.

Yeah. The Raiders and Chiefs won't know what hit 'em.

Will be a nice little entertaining story to keep us amused until shit gets real in January.

Interesting. Biggest difference to me is that with free agency 1) the pool of candidates is much smaller and 2) you are usually dealing with more of a known commodity. But I can think of several instances where teams targeted a specific position that they needed to shore up during free agency.

See: Cleveland Browns switching from a 4-3 to a 3-4 and needing help at outside linebacker to work in the new scheme.

i actually believe the opposte; the best teams use free agency to fill needs with more 'proven' commodities, often filling potholes with what parcells referred to as 'hold the fort' guys -- players who will be passable until the cavalry arrives. use draft to bolster talent level throughout the roster -- if ne and 'best player' mesh, beautiful, but don't force it. often three or four players with similar grades are available when you pick so you can lean toward 'need.' but if an unexpected surprise falls to your pick take him. you'd be surprised how quickly the 'best player' ends up filling a need in a year or two.

Seems like in free agency you are making less decisions on "potential" and more on knowledge of what the player can do in The NFL.

I give the Broncos a lot of credit. They know Manning probably has 2-3 good years left and they're all in...

It's funny... As free agency was beginning, everybody was saying that the Niners should trade its picks to get Percy Harvin or Darrelle Revis... They could end up with Anquan Boldin and Asomugha and only lose a sixth-rounder... I'm not saying Boldin is better than Harvin or Asomugha is better than Revis, but that wouldn't be a bad haul at all... It sure sounds like Woodson or Reed could wind up there too...
