That's what usually happens when a control freak former college coach takes over...

What the coaches don't realize is that sometimes it isn't a good idea to piss off everyone who covers you until you start winning... Not a smart move by Kelly when the Philly media had great access under Reid.

It's just a stupid way of doing business. No one blinks when this happens at the college level, but at the NFL level, this matters...

This one is kind of interesting...

    Stupid-ass agent.

Dumervil agreed to the contract at 1:25 p.m. MDT, cutting his salary from $12 million to $8 million. But the paperwork had to be in by the close of NFL business at 2 p.m. MDT. When the contract didn't come in, they cut him at 1:59 p.m. The Broncos have a faxed timestamp of the signed contract at 2:06 p.m.

    Un-freakin-believeable.

Not quite as bad as what happened to Terrell Owens several years ago, but still, there's no excuse for that kind of incompetence.... It doesn't sound like it's an easy fix either...

    They can't just re-sign him?

Never mind that they're living in 1998 with a fax machine, but now the Broncos lose the $4 million in savings because it's now dead money. Though I'm hearing a bit of chatter that sometimes the NFL allows late faxes. But still ...

Have to redo the contract because they cut him that ends his contract, so the signing bonus money counts immediately. $4 million. So if they re-sign him for the $8 million he agreed to, then the Broncos come out with a net savings of zero when it would have been $4 million.

Patriots lost Woodhead to the Chargers. This one might hurt more than Welker. Woodhead is one of those unselfish bruisers who is hard to come by.

They signed Leon Washington who can do a lot more than Woodhead. Won't hurt at all.

Are we sure the agent wasn't trying to do this? A $4M pay cut is pretty steep. Maybe the agent got a whisper that there would be a lot more out there if Dumervil hits the market.

Word is he was shopping the contract during the week -- and the Broncos deal was the best one available. Plus, Dumervil has collected $28 million the past two years, and he collected nearly $4 million in 2010 when he didn't play a down because of injury.
