You have that pretty right. He is useless as a blocker. But he is a big target and showed pretty good hands last year. I don't think the Raiders wanted him as their starting tight end. He just kind of got the job by default. My take on Myers is that his run-blocking skills, or lack of them, were a part of the problem with Oakland's running game last year. And the reason he caught so many passes is that Carson Palmer had to get rid of the ball quickly way too often (no running game and not much pass protection) and Myers was the dump-off guy. They were garbage catches. If I was a Giants' fan, I wouldn't be too excited by this. You have to wonder if you really scored when you are jumping at a guy the Raiders didn't want and didn't make any effort to keep.

Myers caught a lot of passes in the middle portion in the season -- including 14 against Cleveland. But once teams figured out that's where Palmer was going, Myers' production really dropped off, and it didn't seem like it took extraordinary effort on the defense's part to scheme against him and shut him down. He also got pretty banged up. So, maybe he could be like kevin boss or someone, a good system guy, but I wouldn't expect him to give a whole lot more production than what they've been getting.

They way I heard it, he said all along he wanted more than they were willing to give, but ended up taking a contract they could have matched. If they really didn't try at all, that was clearly a mistake.

thanks, ragu and ltl. this is what i suspected, sounds like a parcells' 'hold the fort' guy, someone who can be useful as a spare part who won't preclude you from drafting a potential stud in the firs 3 rounds if he grades out well... thanks again, scouts!

I suspect he'll find a job at a reduced salary before training camp.

I'm going to laugh if the Steelers end up with Dumervil instead.

Then I'm going to be annoyed because if they have the money to sign him, they could have kept their best cornerback.

Ravens and Orioles can't play at the same time, so Ravens (as of now) can't play the traditional Thursday night opener at the champion's house. Playing on the road is one option, playing Sunday could be another, and I guess trying to persuade the Orioles to change their schedule could be an option if Peter Angelos weren't such a walking dickbag.

Apparently the game can't be played on Wednesday because that's Rosh Hashanah. Because of the enormous contingent of Jewish players in the NFL, no doubt.

It's really somewhat odd that no one has any beef with playing on Christmas, but playing on Rosh Hashanah is a non-starter.

NBC said, "That's fine, we'll go with Seahawks-Niners instead..." :D

I've always thought it was pretty stupid not to start on Labor Day weekend.
