It's always good to have multiple first-round picks. But this year isn't the greatest year to have them. Trading down to get more picks is smart.

If the Jets want a QB, they're in the wrong spots. It's too low to get Geno Smith and too high to take anyone else...

I would hang back at No. 9 and see if Warmack and Cooper are still there. It's probably a pretty safe bet one or both will be there. I've seen mocks where both are gone by then, but guards are typically not drafted that high. When the Niners drafted Iupati a few years ago in the middle of the first round it was considered high for a guard. Obviously, he's been worth it.

If they can take the No. 13 pick and move down to the 20s and get a second-rounder to do so, they'd be in good shape to take a QB in the last 10 picks of the first round or the first 10 of the second round.

I don't follow this stuff closely, but everything I hear says that Smith will be there.

the problem with trading down for extra picks in this draft is EVERYBODY is trying to do that 'cause there are so few top-end -players anyone can crave enough to make the move up. you'll notivr thstwhen teams trade 'up' it's for a player they consider a 'sure thing' that the team they're swapping with has no intention of grabbing. that so many teams in the top 10 with a need at qb are looking to move 'down' (browns, for example) is an indication that whoever moves 'up' for any of these crappy qb's needs a super set.

we shall see, of course, but i'll be shock-shock-SHOCKED it any team moves up into the top 10 for any of these qb's, all you need to know is several of the top qb prospects were not talked up by scouts and personnel guys until the combine and private workout b.s. started up. when it comes to qb's teams desperate for one start to see what they want to see -- if you need to talk yourself into getting excited about a prospect you'd best walk away or be patient.t

If Geno Smith falls past Buffalo, I could see someone going up to get him. I don't think he's a player the Jets are looking at. I think that would be the only way the Jets would be able to get decent value for the No. 9 pick.

I think the No. 13 pick might be a little more attractive to a team, depending on who is still there. If Tavon Austin is still available at No. 13, there are a couple teams (Vikings, Niners...) who have the ammo to move up into the middle of the round.

I saw a quote today, it was about the UCLA defensive end being a possible top 5 pick, and an NFL scout said there are 20 players right now who are possible top 5 picks.

EDIT: Sorry, it was the Oregon linebacker, Dion Jordan. But the quote is: “Sure, he could go in the top five. He’s one of about 20 guys who could go in the top five.”

If that's the case, and there are roughly 20 players of roughly equal ability at the top of the pile, why trade up or down? Just make your best guesses as to which ones are, oh, the five best. Your chances of getting one are pretty damn good even if you're picking 16th.

I don't know... I kind of feel like we know Joeckel, Fisher and Floyd will go in the top 5 and then there might be 5-6 guys vying for those last two spots. I doubt there will be a big surprise in the top 5.

I think Dee Milliner, Lane Johnson, Ezekiel Ansah, Star Lotulelei, Dion Jordan would be the others in the mix for the top 5, and Geno Smith would be the dark horse to go that high.

I think we may see some teams right after the top 10 taking guys who are rated much lower because they were unable to trade down and they had a guy rated higher than the "experts". We saw that with Jacksonville a few years back and the guy ended up being pretty good...

I was going to say... Datone Jones in the top 5? Wow...

I don't buy that there are 20 guys who could go in the top 5, but I do buy that there are probably a player or two who are projecting as top 10 picks who could be available when the playoff teams start drafting, and that doesn't include guys like Bjorn Woerner and Jarvis Jones, who projected to be high picks at one point who have dropped a lot in the last couple weeks...

Imagine if the Jets got both Lane Johnson at 9 and then Warmack/Cooper at 13; wow that would start the rebuilding nicely right there. No more butt-fumbles at least.
