I'm guessing he would rather have a 6-year deal averaging between $17-$18 million with about half of it guaranteed than a 1-year deal, even if it was for $20 million.

Flacco definitely can't lose... It's just a question of how much will he win...

You're completely missing the point. It isn't either-or. For him, it's both.

There is a little bit of risk involved, but the high likelihood is that if he goes franchise tag this year, he is still going to get a deal next year for anything from 70-100M. If he's bad, maybe it's a little less guaranteed; but if he's as good as he was this year, the guarantee is going to be even more.

If he gets a one-year deal at 20, do you really think that's the end of his earning power?

Why is Flacco not an elite quarterback? What the hell does that even mean? He was by far the best quarterback in the 2012 playoffs, a group which included the three phenom rookies, Peyton Manning and Tom Brady. So if he's not consistently at the top of his trade, he sure was during the most important games his team played all season.

Gee, I think there was this feeling early that they were just grinding with him or despite him, and that has just latched onto his rep. It's pretty ridiculous after this season.

He played great in the playoffs. There's no denying that.

To me, the elite NFL quarterbacks are Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees and probably Eli Manning and Ben Roethlisberger. There are easily 12-15 quarterbacks that any general manager would take over Flacco without even thinking about it.

Flacco is a great quarterback for the Ravens. It would not surprise me if he would be highly mediocre if he went somewhere else...

Flacco is better than Roethlisberger right now, and the gap will widen as Big Ben's health continues to fail him.

Your line and group seems entirely arbitrary and not at all based in the marketplace.

I thought the criticism of Flacco was ridiculous. The guy wins a game in the playoffs every year (almost always on the road) and now he has a ring.

But an elite QB? Not even close...

Mizzou, you can't make any kind if case that he isn't other than your all-knowing eye.

The King of Hyperbole strikes again. Not even close, huh?

OK, well first of all, I've never said the guy is a bad quarterback. If I'm the Ravens, I try like hell to keep him because he works in that system.

If he's as good as you say, the Ravens will happily give him a contract similar to what Brees got.

    ELITE

There are four clearly elite quarterbacks in the NFL with two more who can make a pretty good case.

    Flacco isn't one of them.
