If the road stadium better suited the offense, the coach and the GM of said team are idiots.

The NFL, more so than other leagues, revels and relies on nostalgia. They are selling the Steel Curtain every Sunday and the idea the Rapey McRapesalots are their successors as the next great Steelers team. How many hundreds of thousands of Giants-49ers clips from 1990 will we see this week? How many hundreds of thousands of clips will we see if the Giants win that game and get a rematch with the Patriots or (shudder) Ravens?

You can argue the NFL doesn't dictate or control the broadcast partners that televise its games, but I think you would agree that, at the very least, the NFL exerts a subtle pressure on the networks to sell the storylines. Nostalgia sells, especially in a league that hammers us over the head 20 weeks a year about how entrenched it is in our very Americana way of life.

Oh, beej, as if TV networks need any help in building drama any way they can.

You sure don't like being differed with. That's not going to go well for you when you grow up. Last comment on this, guy: A $9 billion industry entrusts the most vital part of its business to a team of clowns. It can fire these incompetents and go out and seek the very best. It does not do this. It assigns Bill Leavy an important game featuring a 15-1 team. It causes people to wonder. You follow the trail. (Hint: There's a lot of green.)

You're right, nostalgia doesn't sell in other leagues at all. If the Pirates and Yankees ever met in the World Series (i know, I know, but hear me out), I'm sure we'd never see Mazeroski's home run. In fact, I can't even remember the last time I saw that replayed. Or, who was that guy for the Giants, Bobby Thomson? Didn't he hit a big home run once?

For fuck sakes, all leagues have certain teams that are the bell cows, and all leagues have history. You want that the league and its broadcast partners should now go out of their way to promote the Jaguars? Not gonna happen, and no reason it should.

Exactly. The Saints build their offense for a dome they play in 8 games a year, the Packers build their offense to play in Lambeau, etc. Why would they give that up? If New Orleans has earned the right to not go outside in January, why would they, especially when the team is designed to play best indoors?

Plus the Super Bowl is the Super Bowl. Yeah, Patriots-Packers or Steelers-Cowboys will get better ratings than Jaguars-Lions or Chiefs-Rams, but it's going to get sky-high numbers regardless. It's not as dependent on its participants to drive interest as other sports. It's an institution and an excuse for Bacon Explosions and Puppy Bowls regardless who's playing.

Ah, sweet sarcasm. Well done. The NFL does not rely on nostalgia more than any other league. That's just silly.

I would say no on all counts, tho Ham would be in the conversation for the next tier.
