But these guys have not played that long. I have read studies that running back is the most dangerous position. And most backs don't play much after their 30th birthday while there are lots of successful 30+ QB's. So do you risk getting these guys hit a couple more times a game and risk ruining your season and maybe their career if they get hurt?

I think if you have a team with TWO "dual-threat" quarterbacks who can mesh well in the read-option, then you've got something.

Unless the rules change, a fast QB who cannot be hit hard is pure gold. This is where the former college coaches are revolutionizing the game (Carroll, Harbaugh) in that they see that speed, combined with the advantage that the QBs and WRs have, post-2004. A dropback QB still is a real threat, provided he has the accuracy to go with some decent mobility.

Slow QBs who are on the high side of 33 are becoming the 30-year-old running back, especially in cold weather. Peyton Manning now joins Favre and Marino as immobile pocket passers who become less and less effective as the season drags on, as they take more hits and as the weather gets nasty.

On one Packer aside: This did look a lot like a Big Ten team trying to contain Oregon and they couldn't do it. I had to drive through Wisconsin on Friday and I was listening to one of the radio shows playing sound bites from McCarthy, who was coughing so much that he sounded like he was about to barf up a lung.

I wonder how much (if any) effect the flu might have had in that locker room. The Packers' defense is awful but many of the skill players looked just a little bit... off. Rodgers. The receivers.

With the Green Bay defense we all saw yesterday, no way that team beats Kaepernick but I will wonder if any illness made a difference. The Packers had nothing left - on either side of the ball - midway through the third quarter. It was just bizarre.

This quote is a good summary of the respect Mr Flacco has around the league. People think his name is John.

Could be worse, he could be Jerry Flacco.

I did not see Denver play much this year. When did Champ Bailey get so crappy, thought he was one of the elite guys?

I realize he has accuracy issues but wouldn't the new trend of running QBs mean that someone gives Tebow a shot(apologies in advance as I am not meaning to Tebowjack the thread)

I know Raiders fans like to hold on to that delusion so they can stay angry. Really all the Tuck Rule thievery did was cost them the opportunity to lose the next week.

the 'trend' is towards 'running' qbs who both run more effectvely than timmy (who is too S-L-O-W to offer the explosiveness of rgIII and kaepernick) and are also far better pocket passers than timmy. by nfl standards tebow excels neither as a running threat nor a passing threat -- his are back-up qb skills or 8-8 starter skills AT BEST, if surrounded by a strong ground game and a strong defense. through no fault of his own, however, the baggage he brings into any town he plays in adds up to an impossible hell for his front office and coaching staff, who ltimately seek to have a team capable of developing into a legit contender, 'cause the more he plays the more the true growth of the team is hampered.
