As for Vick... I do think there is a real hesitance among NFL coaches to bring him in.

NFL head coaches are in business to keep a job as long as possible. Only a handful (Belichick, Peyton, Reid to a lesser extent) are secure enough to bring in a Coach Killing QB (Vick, Favre) that isn't talented enough anymore to do it on his own or has a reputation for not "following a system".

In a league where QB play is one of the few commodities among the labor pool, there are reasons why Vick and Favre didn't get more interest.

 

400-yard passing games are quickly becoming meaningless.

 

Philip Rivers is going to throw for 8,000 yards this season.

 

I think it's less about the security of coaches (or lack thereof) than the respective situations.

Vick is a reprehensible human being. To sign him indicates that you are particularly cold and callous, even for an NFL head coach. Favre is a 78-year-old drama queen who keeps his organization hostage for six months after every season. Who wants to put up with the bullshit? Just find a younger, less difficult guy and make him the future at the position.

 

And go 7-9.

 

And Orton's gonna throw for 7,000 and go 4-12.

 

And Vince Young's gonna throw for 1,583 and go 13-3.
