    Lovie? No.
    Childress? Hell no.
    McCarthy? Maybe.

None would be my first choice, but they wouldn't terrify me in a talent of equal matchup against most NFL coaches.

Notre Dame let them score all day last Saturday.

I was really, really hoping that McCarthy would let them score, but that was because I had the Bears at +3 and a push is like kissing your sister.

can you signal for a fair catch on a squib quick or an on sides kick? or once the ball hits the ground no fair catches?

The clock doesn't start until the receiving team gets the ball, but no time ticks off on a fair catch?

I'm old and I used to know this, not anymore

Now that is a rant. Anger and information. Nicely done.

Only one problem. Cowher's weakness as a coach was always game management. Maybe he is better than McCarthy, but he still isn't particularly good at it.

What Cowher always did well with the Steelers was spot and evaluate talent and put guys in a position to succeed. I don't just mean the draft and free agency, though he had a great deal of input in those areas. I mean understanding who should play and where and then giving them opportunities to blossom.

But in-game decisions? He was often as frustrating to watch as McCarthy.

Based on last night's game, I wouldn't trust McCarthy to spell his own name correctly.

Wow. To even consider firing a coach who's 2-1 and in charge of a contender is laughable. And to think Cowher would gladly and readily accept a job under those circumstances, given how much respect he has for the way the Rooneys did business, is laughable. Seriously?

My best guess: Cowher's fine not coaching this season, and he's waiting for Coughlin or Fox to get the ax in the offseason to coach the Giants or Panthers.

Excellent points, Oz. I was too busy being amused by the idea of Cowher as a cure to game-day mismanagement to get into that stuff.

Also, it hasn't even been that long since Cowher's wife died, another reason I'm sure he is just fine staying off the sidelines for another season.

I think the Steeler organization can take the credit for developing the player and not the coach.

It seems to me that Tomlin is developing guys as well or better than Cowher, or so it seems.

To me, the moment of the game was when Jon Gruden said "simultaneously" and then broke his arm slapping himself on the back for it -- "How do you like that word!"

Congrats, Jon! You just passed your sixth-grade vocabulary test!

Also, I learned last night that every player on each team is the best in the NFL at his position, something they have in common with the two teams that played last Monday and the teams that play next Monday. Jaworski is spectacular breaking down film and explaining it, but an announcer he is not. Or maybe he would be better in a two-person booth, where he wouldn't have Jon Gruden and his Ivy League syntax taking up verbal space.

  12. Was it Steve Young during the pregame or Gruden in the open saying that Aaron Rogers could be th ebest red zone QB he has EVER seen.
