I'm sure they would before going to that option. Not sure how far out they have Super Bowls placed, but maybe this wouldn't take effect until they awarded the next round of Super Bowl bids.

And FoaF, more people will care about it if they do it this way. Far more people.

Isn't it the staffs from the two worst teams the ones who coach the Senior Bowl? (Kind of like letting the worst teams have the best view at college talent to try and get better).

A year or two ago, Marinelli had to have offseason hip surgery, so the Lions had to miss their chance at coaching in the Senior Bowl.

Or maybe I'm thinking of a different offseason college talent event.

I doubt it, wicked, since the level of talent will be significantly less than usual. I love the NFL and wish the season lasted twice as long, but the Pro Bowl is worthless, no matter when or where they play it. And, as evidenced by so many players dropping out in recent years, they don't take it seriously, either. It's not MLB, where the game counts!

    Few of us can ;)

  5. That is true. And moving it out of Hawaii is a good idea if they want any media coverage.

Don't most teams go into the draft knowing exactly what player they are going to select anyway? In the later end of the first round, sure, teams are trying to think of the best available player, but the first couple picks are pretty much locked in anyway.

That is the downside. Presuming the Colts make the Super Bowl, you wouldn't have Manning, Harrison, Freeney or whomever else would be selected.

That is a big talent gap.

No way that players on the Super Bowl teams will play in the Pro Bowl. That kills much of the marquee value right there. Why not play it at midseason like the other all-star games? To answer my own question: coaches aren't gonna risk injuries at midseason.

It'd be interesting to know the percentage of players selected from Super Bowl teams that wind up not playing in the Pro Bowl each year.

  10. Looks like the NFL is trying to come up with something to make the Pro Bowl matter to people. It never will, but putting it the week before the Super Bowl is probably the best idea. No, you won't have players from the Super Bowl teams, but you will have a game to break up the crappy two-week break for the Super Bowl. Hell, I'd probably watch it just to get away from two weeks of Super Bowl hype.

But I'm happy with the shortened draft. Anything that will keep fewer words from leaving Berman and Kiper's mouths between picks is a very good thing.
