The problem is they all have the proverbial "bad loss" -- Steelers lost to Bucs, Browns got crushed by Jags, the Bengals have now lost all three games by at least 21 points, and the Ravens ... actually they are in last place but probably in impressions maybe the best team.

Weird division. Not bad, but weird.

Weird is a good way to describe the AFC North.

I kind of expect the Steelers to run away with it the rest of the way, but we all know how quickly things can turn. Hell, look how awful Pittsburgh looked at the beginning of the season.

Pettine should be in the Coach of the Year consideration. Arians would probably get my vote, but he'd be in the mix.

If the Browns finish in the 8-10 win range with Hoyer as the QB, do you think they try to deal Manziel?

Doubt the offers would amount to much. Asking teams to take on a couple years of a first round pick salary for a guy who hasn't played yet.

I count the Bills, Jets, Raiders, Texans, Titans, Jags, Bucs, Vikings, Eagles, Cowboys, Redskins, Cardinals and Rams as the teams who have had at least two starting qbs, halfway through the season. I think of a competent back up as a necessity, not a luxury.

The rookie contracts aren't bad at all anymore. Manziel's deal was 4/$8.25M, with $4.3M as signing bonus. His salaries for the rest of the deal are barely $1 million.

That's a great risk for a team that thinks he might be a starting quarterback.

First round salary isn't exactly what it used to be. I think between prorated signing bonus and salary, I think he'll cost $2 million next season.

I agree that teams need two QBs. I think the question would be if he's on board with being a backup for a second season.

    Isn't Hoyer 9-3 as a starter?

Green Bay gave Atlanta a No. 1 for Favre before he'd ever completed an NFL pass.

He was 0-for-4 as a rookie.

There is also a question as to whether he really is a competent backup. He's proven zero yet. Obviously, the Browns' scouts think he can play or they wouldn't have drafted him so high, but he is still more of a question than an answer at the moment.

Of course, the real question is if some QB-starved team whose scouts say Johnny can be an NFL starter comes to you and offers a No. 1 for your backup QB, can you possibly say no?

Could be Jerry Jones getting another bite at that apple.

Wonder how Raab is taking this all in.

Hoyer is a free agent after this season and I don't think he's going to have any shortage of suitors.

If the Browns sign him, I would not be surprised if Manziel asks to get out of Cleveland.
