I see a lot of Bear games, and have watched them in good times and bad . . . and will note that there are levels of intensity re defensive hitting in that league, and right now, those guys are hitting on all cylinders. They're not an utter shut-down D, but the effort is there, and it's currently set on max, and that's so important.

FWIW, UT's Tyler Bray suffered a very similar injury to Cutler's and was back this weekend against Vandy, 6 weeks later.

I would bet serious money that he's way out of shape.

If he's not. If I'm Chicago, I call him and I say, "We'll pay you $5 million for the rest of the season. You get another million if we make the playoffs and an additional $2 million if we make the Super Bowl and another $2 million if we win it."

Kerry Collins and the Indianapolis Colts report that bringing in a retiree off the street because you don't trust your backup works out so amazingly well.

If they think they can make the playoffs without Cutler (I think they can.) or that he'll be back by the final game of the season, or the first week of the playoffs, I think that's something for them to think about...

I predict he's on IR by the end of the week.

I think Caleb Hanie will do a lot better than any of the Indy quarterbacks have.

You would give a 43-year-old quarterback, who was terrible in his last season, $5 million for the next six games? Tom Brady doesn't even make that on a per-game basis.

    YES! DO IT!

He's exactly what the Bears need: Someone who can create something out of nothing when the offensive line does their matador act. So what if he throws three picks? Those are like three punts that were going to happen anyway under Haney.

And if it's bad, so what? I'd rather go down in a glorious shitstorm that have a quiet, Hanie-led, 9-7 playoff miss.

He's apparently not familiar with the Bears' offensive line. With even moderate blocking, Forte would be in line for a 2000-yard rushing season. But he's been getting stuffed with no chance on 2/3rds of the running plays even with the threat of Cutler passing.

I understand and respect that, but must add . . . boy, Bray looked it. And yes, I know they won. Somehow.

Having lived through it out here, I can tell you the one quarterback Martz does like in a pinch is J.T. O'Sullivan, who has acquired the nickname Just Turnovers yet has never lost Martz's faith.
