i think you're way off on your 'guess.' harbaugh drafted him and has been waiting for any excuse to get him in and smith out. once he was in he was in for good. and, as far as i know, harbaugh was plenty healthy enough to have been back in action today.

Yes, it was a bad pass, but Wallace had both hands on it. He should catch that ball, but I'm not surprised that he didn't. That was a place where you would hope he would help Batch out, not make things worse by tipping the ball up in the air in traffic.

The interception on the deep ball was a terrible decision and a terrible throw. The interception by Brown on the sideline route was another bad decision, though Burress certainly didn't help him out any on that one.

No doubt, Batch didn't just have a bad game. He looked like he is incapable of having any more good ones. I'm just saying in this particular game, if his running backs just hold on to the damn ball and Wallace doesn't turn in such a useless effort, the Steelers probably win anyway.

The 49ers, for whatever reason, love Scott Tolzien. They were calling him Baby Drew Brees during the preseason.

I think Harbaugh figures he can pick a guy and make him a quarterback. And he's probably right.

    It could happen.

Pats were going to have to cut Cassel, but the Chiefs traded essentially a first round pick for him.

You consider yourself a legit Super Bowl contender with Colin Kaepernick as your starter?

He wasn't medically cleared to play unitl Saturday, so I imagine Kaepernick took the bulk of the snaps during the week. Still, how do you take him out?

it does 't mean a thing what i think. i've seen him throw hlow many passes now? the only opinion that matters is harbaugh's, who's made it pretty clear that he considers smith a very limited passer. it seems that harbaugh has that rare gift to squeeze all he can out of qbs. a qb whisperer, if you will. it's evident who he believes gives him the best chance.

I could see changing in some other situation. But if I'm thinking Super Bowl this year, I wouldn't screw with the core of my team in week 11. Dance with who brung you, as Darrell Royal once said.

Kaepernick's a nice insurance policy and if Smith can't go, then different story. But if Kaepernick was the better choice, why wasn't he starting since September?

Scott Pioli's idiocy is not going to persuade other teams to follow that path.

i don't disagree at all. i was quite surprised at harbaugh's decision, thought it was pretty cold. i was under the impression smith had practiced during the week. and the way they talked about smith's 'reaction' during the broadcast made it pretty clear the job was no longer his. they all noted how 'classy' smith was about losing his job....

Mark, back away from the keyboard. You look dumber with every post.

Kaepernick wasn't the better choice in September because he wasn't ready. He was a second-year project who had never taken a snap under center before joining the NFL. And then in a game and a half, he showed he was ready. He has also played significant time throughout the season, at least a series per game in the flow of play.

LTL, I don't believe that much changes in a handful of practices from September to November.

The backup QB is always the most popular guy in town. Fans and media always think he's the answer. See Tim Tebow, Nik Foles, Matt Flynn, etc.

So my guess is Smith is back within two weeks. I know if I were in his shoes, I'd be awfully pissed if I were healthy and not playing.
