'cause he wasnt ready yet and smith was the incumbent coming off a career year. listen, i cant peak for harbaugh but i can read what he says -- and he's saying he consider's harbaugh smith his xecond-best qb. bravo to those of you who are so charged up about smith getting a raw deal. it's fine to think you know qbs better than harbaugh does, i have to trust that he knows how good his qbs are better than i do.

i'm sorry, i''m bowing out of this discussion now. i'm already disgusted with myself for wasting so much time debating over alex stinkin' smith. god bless him.

Just a guess on my part, like I said. We're both on the same page, though. Kaepernick's been the heir apparent all along. Smith may have taken them as far as they can go with him.

That timeline you guys are talking about isn't right -- Kaepernick got word Tuesday that he was starting regardless of Smith's health. When Alex or cleared had nothing to do with it.

Any Frog and Toad fans? Tonight's game reminds me of "Spring."

Cam Newton ad campaigns amuse me.

Uncle Al knows his Nevada audience. "This game ... isn't quite over yet."

Um, yeah. Giants at the 3 facing fourth down in a 38-10 game. The O/U was 50.5.

Clay Matthews is the Jay Cutler of the Packers. That whole team -- not just the defense -- sucks when he's not playing.

I think the Bears are going to win the North.

I don't. The Packers and Bears are the same fluff teams strong in different areas. Both are playoff teams, neither is good enough to beat NY or SF.

This weekend was Chicago's first win over a winning team. For whatever reason the Bears can't beat the Packers. Ugly Jay seems to always show up. I see the Packers winning out and losing in the 2nd round, unless they get NYG or SF in the first.

You're probably right. The Packers have a much easier remaining schedule even if they have to make up a game.

I don't see either team winning a playoff game unless they have to play each other. Then again, I don't think Atlanta scares anyone.

It is noteworthy how the two teams with the best records in the league have next to nobody seeing them as Super Bowl contenders.
