The word has gone down from the league to the networks. Your ref experts better back up our calls. Of course, the experts have that bias anyway. But to defend the tripping call on the Cowboys defies reason. Incomplete was the right call.

Joey Slye missed two point-after attempts, and capped it with the short field-goal attempt miss after the Panthers shut down the Saints on a fourth-and-short in their own territory.

Dave Tepper has already officially put Ron Rivera and Marty Hurney on notice.

Rivera has sacrificed a player for much less.

Poor Joey Slye. The Panthers probably weren't going anywhere this season, anyway. But this won't help Slye, Rivera or Hurney.

The only potential bright spot? If Cam Newton can prove he has healed soon after the offseason starts, I think the team will put him back behind center next season. IMO, the stories about his premature demise with the team are just that ... if his foot heals properly and he can show that all those hits haven't taken an excessive toll on him.

    Stay Tuned.

Then why do the networks spend money to keep the officials on the payroll? Or did they say something that disagreed with the Patriots?

I would think that extra long second would have come if it meant the Patriots were getting the ball back but not to crew the home team out of ending the game on that throw. Lucky for New England, it was the Cowboys with the second chance.

No, Sam, Pereira agreed with a horrible call in New England's favor. They keep the ex-officials to spread a balm of legitimacy over the entire replay farce.

If I have a killer day in college, as I did yesterday, then I'm useless in the NFL. But maybe I'll hit my over in the Grey Cup.

Agreed. That was a terrible call that screwed the Cowboys. I wouldn't have been shocked if they called a hold, but there is nothing even resembling a trip on that play.
