They're two different kinds of players, though, and it's two different eras. Riggins was the most dominant back in the league for a three- or four-year stretch. He was a late bloomer. Good early in his career, but at his best at the end of it.
McCaffrey is obviously a better receiver and more explosive. Riggins is one of the best power backs of all time. It's like asking which flavor of ice cream you prefer, or what tool you need to do a job.

I guess one way to put it would be this. If you're down 20-16 with two minutes left and the ball on your own 20, you'd much rather have McCaffrey in the backfield. If you get to fourth-and-goal at the 1 with 5 seconds left on that same drive, you're giving the ball to Riggins to get that last yard.

I think you guys are missing the point of what McCoy was saying.
He was talking about the best football a white guy has played for one season at RB, WR or TE.

At this point, if it comes out there is a huge Tim Donaghy-type scandal, involving 10 refs and Al Riveron, i wouldn't be surprised.

For those who watch Sharks games, I didn't think the bail bonds dude could be any more douchy but his pimp fur coat proved me wrong. Bail bonds must be good business if that asshole can pay big bucks for free advertising. Douche.

He wasn't supposed to be. Riggo behind the Hogs was a meatgrinder. His game wasn't slashing, it was human battering ram.

Csonka was the same way, perhaps more so.

Can Alstott get some white boy love at fullback?

He was a good player, but I don't think he is on a level with guys like Csonka, Riggins, Largent or Gronkowski. (I forget who else has been mentioned.)

I get the difficulty in comparing McCaffrey and Riggins. I'm old enough to remember when The Diesel was at his best with the Redskins and McCaffrey is just in his third season. That said, the production is tough to argue against. The only flaw I've noticed is he's a liability if he has to pick up a blitz, but he should probably be out in a route on any pass anyway.

Whether or not we actually need a discussion of the best white players at offensive skill positions is another matter entirely.

To be fair, if he doesn't shank that field goal right, it would have been blocked. The Saints' linebacker timed that leap beautifully. Not sure you can put that all on Slye.

I've never seen kicking as bad as it has been this season.

I think this is the result of pushing the PATs back.

Kickers used those 20-yard gimmes in the first quarter for rhythm, wind and getting the first one out of the way. Like a practice shot from a tee at an easy par-3.
