Pioli isn't a coach. Roman is. Roman would be running the system.

I know, I'm just comparing guys who knew each other before then paired up and the magic never materialized.

If Roman thought Smith was so good, Smith likely keeps his job.

That's just dumb because A) all things changed when they saw what Kaepernick could do; and B) if Roman is in a new place, he is probably going to be looking at new options for quarterback, and Kaepernick is not going to be among the very limited options.

But that's all hypothetical. What I don't understand, qtlaw, is why people out here really, really have it out for Alex Smith. I'm all for starting Kaepernick. But you and many others in the Bay Area just seem to react in a way that shows Smith simply can't win with the fan base. He has become like our own little version of Jay Cutler.

I finally realized why I don't seem to like Mike Mayock. The guy is the Billy Packer of the NFL. I feel like he's always talking down to me.

Matty Ice Cold: 9 for 21, 89 yards near the end of the third quarter against the Saints. That isn't a tough defense.

Teams would be wise to lose regular-season games on purpose and make sure their playoff path goes through Atlanta instead of San Francisco. Get Simers on the case!

I'm more interested in Brees. His TD streak has to end at some point, right?

What is it about the Falcons that they suddenly turn into the 1976 Tampa Bay Bucs every time they get in the red zone against New Orleans?

You'd think so, yeah. I have a feeling it won't be tonight, though.

That, and he's completely humorless. It's football, not the White House Situation Room. No need to be so serious all the time.

In trying to "talk down," Mayock ends up sounding ridiculously simplistic while regurgitating EXACTLY what is happening on replays. It's the TV version of oop posting play-by-play during a Steelers game.

    Yes. Exactly.

Plus, Billy Packer wasn't exactly charming and funny.

Watch out, Falcons. That's your junk you're stepping on.
