It's the NFL. Different rules. Just like in college and high school players aren't covering their knees. You don't see that in the NFL because they'll get fined. Can't fine college and high school players.

Man, I’d think that would be a personal injury risk, but I guess not because I haven’t seen a dude get his throat cut wearing one. Yet.

You can't play without a helmet.

You'd think college and high school teams/organizations would not be eager to sidestep a trivial yet very minimal safety regulation and eventually blunder into injury lawsuits. But here we are.

No doubt, and the reactions by his teammates were predictably unkind. Maybe Campbell is just an immature jackass. Maybe there is a mental health issue going on there. If it is the former, he deserves all the negativity and more. If it is the latter and his teammates didn't bother to find out before ripping into him, that's another matter entirely.

If he wasn't well, or didn't intend to play, he shouldn't have suited up.

The Niners face an interesting off-season. If Brock Purdy is dependent on McCaffrey to make him look good, you wonder if the team is willing to commit $50m a year to him for three or four years. They may not want to, but they'll have to. It is really odd. They are in the top 10 in team rushing and passing. Third in team defense. Don't know how they lost so many games.

If he was dealing with a mental health issue, he may not have realized what his reaction was going to be in that moment. Of course, I am open to the possibility that he is just an entitled jackass who was pissed off about losing his starting job and made a childish decision to screw his team over. I'm just open to there being a good reason, too.

De’Vondre pulled this same shit with the Packers. His NFL career ended last night.

I don't want the 49ers linebacker quitting and pouting to take the attention away from Deebo Samuel :D

    • Deebo had a sideline altercation with his own kicker and long snapper a few weeks ago, and yelled at the kicker to "lock in!"
    • Deebo complained this past week (after a win) about not getting enough touches
    • Last night, he dropped a sure td pass that was thrown to him in stride, in the bread basket. Almost sure to be a TD, On the night, he had 3 catches for 16 yards. And two rushes for 3 yards. And a false start.
    • He also managed to tackle his own rb, Isaac Guerendo, on a Guerendo rushing play.
    Other than that, going great!!

His mental health took a downturn at the exact same time he was benched for the return of Dre Greenlaw.

He’s the odd man out and he knows it. When Aiyuk returns next year, it will be him, Pearsall and Jennings plus McCaffery and Kittle. And even if his stock is down, the market will force them to pay Purdy.

I think Deebo was hoping he’d be a bigger impact guy and isn’t and he’s frustrated he lost another Super Bowl and won’t likely get back to another.

Wearing a helmet is specifically in the rule book. The knee pad thing in high school and college is out of control. Has been for years. College officials have coaches sign a card attesting all players are properly and legally equipped, waiving the liability on officials. It's needed in high school, but NFHS is still in the 1980s and they're more worried about changing the rule about eye black than actual safety and common sense rules changes.

No throat cuttings... but Michael Crabtree did get his chain snatched by Aqib Talib twice during games.
