And I'm saying you'd have a hard time finding a season where there wasn't a team that won at least eight in a row.

The Bears have won at least five in a row three straight seasons, including six in a row this year. There's a good chance that will translate to one playoff berth.

    My NFL report from Sunday:

    1) Cowboys Stadium is quite a place despite the rip-off on nearby parking (your choice of lots at $40, $50 or $60).
    2) The NFL's in-stadium experience is an abomination. I really don't want or need four straight hours of gyrating scoreboards screaming at me to make noise every time the opposing team has a third down, video of the dance team when everyone in the stadium really wants to see replays of the play that's being challenged, etc., etc., etc., all thrown at me at a volume that can be heard throughout the rest of the time zone. Never ceases to amaze me how many people willingly endure this week after week after week.

I know it'll never happen because there's something like 12 tiebreakers in front of it, but I've always rooted for the coin flip tiebreaker.

Both Washington and Dallas control their own destiny. Either would win the NFC East by winning out, which means one has to beat the other in Week 17. That'll be epic.

If Washington and Dallas both win next week, that'll eliminate the Giants from the division title based on division record. The Giants, by winning out themselves, could then still get a wild card, but they'll be in the jumble with all the rest.

Seven in a row isn't that much of a stretch when you consider the victims so far: a miserable Eagles team, a mediocre Dallas, two teams (Giants and Baltimore) that are nothing more than average, and Cleveland. Now they get Philly again and I'll take the 'Skins in the home finale against the Cowboys and give the points all . . . day . . . long.

I'm still giddy over the Niners win... I know they let them back into the game after what looked like a blowout, but it was the Pats at home and I loved how they responded after the Pats tied the game.

That was an outstanding game. Worth staying up way too late for.

Yeah, as a Niners fan, watching them go across the country and play in bad weather and beat a Patriots team that I considered to be the best team in the NFL, was just huge...

It wasn't like they played perfectly, by any stretch, but to be able to win a game like that is huge for the Niners... I don't think it's devastating for the Pats, even if it might have cost them the (overrated) bye week.

It's not the bye that's the issue, it's having to play the Broncos in Denver rather than at home.

I have season tix to the Cowboys but rarely go -- a buddy buys some and then I sell the rest on the open market -- but the noise isn't what bothers me, it's the idiot fans (of either allegiance) scattered around me who feel that they can't have a good time unless: A) they are totally, staggeringly drunk; AND B) they get to scare up a fight with someone near 'em. Guess I am getting too old and grouchy.

BTW, my parking passes are $75 a game ... and they get lapped up in a minute when I put 'em on the NFL's ticket exchange.

Right... I think Denver is the only team that can prevent the Pats from going to the Super Bowl... I don't think anyone is worried about a trip to Houston...
