Those two hits, the Moody hit on Wilson in 49er game and the Worlds hit in the Steelers game, were brutal. Come on where are they supposed to hit the QB anymore? Rather than protect the QB further, they've got to demand that the position evolve with the game, perhaps only bigger QBs can play then, hello Jared Lorenzen? You know the Big Ben types. Because this is getting ridiculous; can't hit the QB low, cannot even hit them in the chest, what's next? everyone has to arm tackles the QB?

He could have placed his helmet to either side and driven with the shoulder pad. I was taught to hit, wrap, drive and plant. What he did was bad technique.

In today's NFL, I have no problem with that flag.

But... I also have a problem with coordinators calling slants across the middle of the field and screaming when their guy, running full speed, gets tackled hard. You wan't to keep him safe? Run a freeking hook.

Merril Hoge on Johnny Fuckin' Flailball:

"As I've said before, it's going to be a quick exit and it's unfortunate, because whoever drafted him in Cleveland, they need to be fired,'' Hoge said on a postgame show. "Because it's unfair to the kid. He has sixth-round talent but first-round hype, and you draft him there and now regardless of what happens from here on out, he will be expected to play like a first-rounder and that's unfair to him.

"He doesn't have the skill set to withstand that expectation and that's not his fault, it's the Cleveland Browns' for drafting him that high.''

At the risk of writing a guy off too early, he did not seem yesterday like someone who could make the most basic throws.

Unless you are P. Manning, you must have a good arm to play in this league. Dalton has a decent arm, and it hurts him in cold weather and the playoffs. Kaep and Wilson have cannons.

If JF can't make the throws and is not as fast as other mobile QBs, then, making it in the league is going to be very hard. Very, very hard.

First, it's pretty much of a hoot to hear Hoge say somebody else doesn't have the talent to be an NFL quarterback. Second, Manziel was a catastrophe, but writing him off after one game is the worst sort of Hot Take overreaction, not that that's a first for Hoge.

For the record, I think Hoge had written him off before the game.

    Maybe.

I also think yesterday showed why the Browns hadn't gone to him yet -- they were hoping to escape the season without blowing his cover and then try to recoup the draft pick.

There are some tough decisions coming in Cleveland. Writing Manziel off after one game is stupid, but I would be pretty nervous starting next season with that guy as my starter.

I dunno, LTL. If a QB is drafted in the first round, doesn't play his rookie year and then the team tries to trade him, I don't think his covers holds too well anyway.

I'm sure they read the ESPN story of Jerry lamenting Manziel as the one that got away.

If you have no problem with that flag, you have no problem with officials making incorrect calls. It is that simple. By rule, that was a legal tackle.

It wasn't perfect form, but it wasn't bad. He did not dip his head and he drove through the guy's chest.

Also, according to Meatie, Mike and Mike must be Steelers fans because they were ripping the officials this morning for that hit and the one in the 49ers-Seahawks game. I know. Not the greatest football analysts of all time, but I just wanted to share the example of two people who are not fans of the Steelers who realize that call was wrong.

Why is it a hoot to hear Hoge say somebody else doesn't have the talent to be an NFL quarterback? Just because you don't think much of him as an analyst? It certainly doesn't relate to him as a player as he wasn't a quarterback and he was a decent player before concussions cut his career short. Nothing special, but solid.
