if you are five and you need a QB, you are at the mercy of the people in front of you.

if you are at five and you don’t need a QB, you have to hope people in front of you pick a QB.

if you are at No 2, you are guaranteed whomever you get is at least the second best player on your board, and really likely you get the first.

You want the best tackle or Marvin Harrison Jr? You’re guaranteed to get one. At five you probably aren’t getting either

Also, if you get No 2 in a 2-QB draft, you can get a ton of picks for that slot

 

I'm sure the combine and pro days will move things around a little, but I'd still be surprised if you didn't see quarterbacks with the first two picks. Maybe that means one of these teams trades down a spot or two, but even if their value has dipped a little, teams will talk themselves back into Caleb Williams and Drake Maye.

 

The Chiefs are not serious people.
