    Precisely.

Of course, Steelers were a comic book for decades, until they had their One Great Run . . .

XL will always carry a big, fat asterisk. No debate.

Admire management's savvy, and the franchise's relative stability,
but given their broad reluctance to spend real money on a consistent basis, they still must be given solid marks for remaining constantly competitive in recent years . . .

No. It won't. Give it another five years and even the Seahawks fans will stop whining.

I looked that up, too. Looks like a W to me.

And not an asterisk in sight.

Well, that settles it. I'm sure the Steelers will be handing over that Lombardi trophy any minute now. Just keep holding your breath.

    Hey, everybody was thrilled.

    Happy endings, and all that.

. . . and did you know that Jerome Bettis was from Detroit?

    News to me.

I'm not sure if it is where you are going, but it sounds like you are a believer in one of the dumbest conspiracy theories I have ever heard.

We've done this dance. I'm not looking to rip off old scabs, but I've seen every Super Bowl, and XL was the worst-officiated of the bunch, and it had some competition for the honor.

Oh, there is no question the officiating was horrible. It was arguably the worst-played Super Bowl I have seen, by both teams.

But it is a huge leap from the officiating sucked to the game was fixed, and the latter is truly one of the dumbest sports-related conspiracy theories I have ever heard.

I know it sounds heartless, but do you think any NFL team wants to have their week off in the second week of the season?

    Stupidest thing I ever posted...

If it's so stupid, I want you to think "93Devil was right" every time you hear a coach or a player say they are looking forward to the week off or the bye week in about 4-6 weeks. No one says that after the first game.

This is a thread about football, and yes, the Ravens and the Texans chances of winning their divisions went down when they were forced to take the bye in the second week of the season.

You also need to think about the surrounding conditions. I doubt the teams wanted a bye, but that thing called "Hurricane Ike" caused some problems.
