NFL Week 4 -- Won't You Be My Nabers?

I realize Fields is playing well, but when Wilson's injury was first revealed it was almost as if he was "day to day.." and that was week one. A few other players whose injuries were only revealed as Week one began (with minimal reporting about the injuries before that). Just kind of odd. I realize they don't have to say anything before the Injury List goes live in week one, just imagined the severity of the problems would have gained notice before that.

It's amazing to me that some of these teams will be playoff teams. There might be only 8 decent teams in the NFL right now, but they'll need to fill the spots somehow.

It does seem like offensive linemen are dropping in droves. That's three lines decimated by injury just in our brief conversation. I'm sure there are more.

The whole thing seems odd. I assume he would be active if he was healthy enough to play. I certainly hope they aren't doing it as a way for him and the team to save face because Fields has taken the job.

The Rams didn't even make it out of training camp, and three of their starting o line were gone.

Ugh. Speaking of injuries on the offensive line, Steelers guard James Daniels suffered a torn Achilles tendon yesterday and he is out for the season. That is two of their top three guards out and three of their top seven offensive linemen out for the season. They lost Nate Herbig to a torn rotator cuff during the preseason. First-round pick Troy Fautanu started one game a tackle before suffering a dislocated kneecap.

Herbig would have been the first guy off the bench at guard. Isaac Seumalu hasn't played this season due to a pec injury. He has had some limited practice the last couple of weeks, so he might be back for Week 5, but the line is in serious trouble. They finished the game with fourth-round pick Mason McCormick and 2023 seventh-rounder Spencer Anderson at the guard spots.

Their whole running back room is broken, too. Harris is playing with some sort of injury that had his arm in a sling last week. Warren is out with a knee problem and Patterson hurt his ankle yesterday.

    Fugly.

Pretty soon they’ll consider expanding rosters to 100 players.

They already took a small step in that direction when they expanded the practice squad. I think they just never reverted entirely after COVID, but these teams need the bodies.

Yeah, but he verifiably sucks in the TV booth.

The following, seen as I was driving back from golf, is this week's inspirational message on the roadside signboard outside St. Peter's Lutheran Church of Harwich, Mass. "God Will Not Forsake You -- Unlike the Patriots."
