Always wondered how life would have been different if the Grizzlies had drafted Nash when they were still in Vancouver? Seattle would have also made sense as a "home" for Nash --- when the Suns played the Sonics, there were always plenty of Nash jerseys in the stands. But with the Grizzlies and Sonics both gone, there was no real home team for Nash.

Using the logic regarding Steve Nash, should Rick Nash do everyone a favour and come "home" to Toronto even though there will be much better teams vying for his services?

As far as I know, Steve Nash has never told Dave Bidini where to work.

I read a report that Nash didn't want to go to Ottawa. Why?

Bidini is right out to lunch on this, it's true.

Then again, he recently published a column backing up his contention that "Seasons in the Sun" is the greatest Canadian song of all time, so maybe he's just generally insane.

    Beef,

I don't think you can compare what the Wild didn't do with Gabby and what they did yesterday.

    Different owner. Different GM.

Actually same owner -- Leipold has owned the Wild since 2008, Gaborik left in the summer of 2009. Leipold also was a conservative, longterm build guy when he owned the Predators before the Wild as well. And also same GM. Fletcher was named GM in the spring of 2009. Letting Gaborik go a month ans a half later was one of his first moves as GM.

Party line I heard at the time re Gaborik was that he was just too injury prone to merit the kind of money he was wanting. I understand that rationale, too. He had a couple of less than full seasons before leaving Minnesota.

I know injuries were a concern, but I have trouble buying it considering they replaced him with Martin Havlat who had played just one full season out of eight before they signed him for less money than what it would have cost to sign Gaborik. And while he stayed mostly healthy in Minnesota, he didn't exactly produce like Gaborik.

Also, as far as the boldness of the Brent Burns deal, he had one year left on his deal and due a big raise, they maxed out their return with an offensive player who was just re-signed to a three-year deal that averaged $3 mil a year.

The Wild have never been big spenders. They've almost always cashed out instead of shoving their chips into the middle. They finally did that. It's good to see.

I read that. I think Dave might have played too many outdoor gigs without his trademark hat on.

A song that routinely ranks #1 as the worst Canadian song of all time. That, and Patsy Gallant's "From New York to LA"
