They had every opportunity to sign him long term before they insulted him in salary arbritation last year.

The money in the first few years of this contract is staggering.

F***ing insanity, but upstairs Ron Caron applauds the boldness. ;D

I'm having flashbacks of the mad professor signing Scott Stevens, then turning around and losing him as compensation for Shanahan.

I wonder if Pekke Rinne is now regretting his contract with the Preds.

Nashville is in a real pickle here. Either they slip further into the abyss or blow their pay structure sky high.

They need to work out a deal with the Lyers for some of their good NHL ready young talent or simply match. They can't take the picks.

They tried going after Couturier and or Brayden Schenn, according to Dreger, and the Flyers said no. Again, in my books this falls into the Nash category, trying to get something for nothing or at a giant discounted rate. Only this time the Flyers have the chance to follow through with the RFA offer. And I'm not knocking them in this case, they are using the current CBA the way it was meant to be used.

If they don't work out a trade I can't see them getting Weber. Do you think the Preds will just take the picks? Maybe they will but I don't think they can sell that to their fan base

Guess what they are going to go for in the CBA: The right to terminate any contract at any point.

In other words, all these decade-plus contracts are complete funny money. The players will never see 75% of that money.

Weber's offer sheet is more front-loaded than Morganna the Kissing Bandit. Won't affect him like that.

Wrong. You haven't been right on any of your CBA gloom in any sport

Even without a trade the Flyers can still get Weber since it's either the offer sheet or nothing. If the Preds match Weber can't be traded for a year although it's possible they have something worked out to give the picks back for players.
