Why wouldn't the owners want what their fellow moguls in the NFL enjoy?

It's so annoying to actually have to PAY players after you shell out these massive contracts.

And, the NHL owners are the ones who actually pulled the trigger on a whole season not so long ago. They won then, they'll win again.

My question would be now that the RFA contract process has been started, can a trade be worked out on the side, is there room for that in the CBA? I'm sure the Preds would love to, especially if they could get a Brayden Schenn out of the deal, but are they allowed to now?

Weber cannot be traded for one year. The only trade that can be done is if Nashville declines to match and deals some/all of the picks back to Philly for players.

But, I think they will match.

Right, but between now and the expiration of their seven day window to match, can he be traded instead of taking the picks?

No because he's a free agent. Nashville doesn't have his rights at the moment to trade.

No, it would have to be an agreement where Nashville trades the 4 firsts back to Philly. The minute they match they can't trade him for a year. If they match there is no way they are trading him after paying him 26 mill in that first year.

Comes down to a prearranged agreement. If we don't match you give us Schenn, Coburn and two firsts for example and we give you back those picks. Weber does not want to be inNashville, this scenario makes the most sense to me, for both teams.

I think you can trade RFA's...Kessel to Toronto for example.

Not after they have signed the offer sheet. If a trade is made you are trading back the compensation.

You can only do that prior to July 1 when the contracts expire.

The Rick Nash saga is finally over.
Heads to the Rangers for Anisimov, Dubinsky, Tim Erixon and a first round pick.

I actually don't think Howson did terribly here. He was never going to win this deal, but they did just get a whole lot better.

Howson was looking for a lot more at the trade deadline than this.

Under the circumstances, not a horrible deal but Rangers won it.

Interesting to see how Nash plays under Tortorella. Has Nash ever seen his own end? :)

The Blue Jackets were never going to win this deal. They got three solid young players -- maybe not a definitive star -- and a first round pick. I think they did alright.

And Nash did play for Hitchcock for a few seasons, so he definitely has played in his own end,
