Good faith means both paties are aware of the circumstances. Both the player and management are acutely aware what is happening. It is apples and oranges.

The players signed these deals expecting to receive the agreed upon compensation and that is what they should get.

OK< I guess my terminology is off.

It is still an abuse of the system by both sides.

I would also argue that a number of the contracts signed just before the expiration of the CBA were done so knowing full well there is the risk that they could be rolled back to some degree and is a reason why some were as high as they were, but not obscenley high that they would be out of the world for a team to pay if there was no rollback. I don't think they would pretend to be that obtuse or ignorant. Contracts signed before August, after it became pretty clear a lockout was all but guaranteed, or in previous summers, well that's another story.

Any progress to report on this front? I guess I'm going to have to get my hockey fix with the local minor-league team and watching KHL games on ESPN3.

I could go for that. If a bunch of teams are way over currently, do a long-term deal where the percentage drops each season and teams have a chance to adjust their budgets accordingly.

Another good idea on limiting the length. I always hated the really long (10+ years) deals because there is just no way to predict what the world will be like that far in advance.

I agree when it comes to the super-long contracts. There's not much way on God's green earth that some of these guys are going to be on the same team or maybe even in the league 10 or 12 years down the road.

Since we are doing a new CBA, might as well realign now.

Atlantic and Northeast Divisions stay as they are.

Southeast: Nashville, Washington, Carolina, Florida, Tampa Bay.

Central: Detroit, Chicago, St. Louis, Columbus, Dallas.

Northwest: Winnipeg, Minnesota, Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver (or Colorado)

Pacific: San Jose, Los Angeles, Anaheim, Phoenix, Colorado (or Vancouver)

That makes too much geographic sense. It'd never work.

Realignment is one of the things that needs to be solved, there is no reason for Winnipeg to remain in the South Eastern Division next season coming out of the lockout, they need to be rescued. Also, bring in new historical names for the divisions instead of the generic directional names.

I have to admit I didn't realize Winnipeg was still in the Southeast Division. If that's the case, then they definitely need to realign. The alignment you proposed makes good sense.

The Canadian networks have to fill some serious programming slots if the season is called.

TSN has already started "Rewind", showing old World Junior games.

CBC is running an online poll asking people which classic game they'd like to see on Hockey Night in Canada.

The broadcaster put five classic games on its website and asked fans and viewers to vote on what they would like to watch on Saturday night. The first week’s voting is closed, with now the only suspense being the winner, and week two’s games are now up for your choosing. Over 80,000 people voted the first week.

Not much appeals to me here with the exception of the Flyers-Red Army game.
