I don't think Nashville wants anything to do with being in the Southeast. Would lose six great home games a year with Detroit and Chicago and would be the only Central time zone team in the SE.

Apparently classic games do not go farther west than Ontairio.

3 out of 5 have western based teams. Me, I'd love to see the '97 Dallas/Oilers game just see that save Cujo made on Dutch Boy.

Which Hockey Night in Canada Classic game do you want to watch on Saturday, Oct. 20th?
Jan. 11, 1976 - Soviet Red Army vs. Flyers
    April 30, 1994 - Vancouver vs. Calgary
    April 28, 1996 - Detroit vs. Winnipeg
    April 29, 1997 - Edmonton vs. Dallas
April 18, 1999 - Pittsburgh vs. New York

Missed the first set. Do you remember what they were?

Dallas has whined for years about being in the Pacific Division. Far too many late starts for TV. That seems to be the biggest whining point.

I think you're correct, Cosmo. Word has it that Nashville hypes its home games with Chicago and Detroit, using the term "rivalry."

But it makes only too much sense to include Nashville in the Southeast Division should the NHL stick with the six-division format with five teams apiece. Name a better candidate to switch conferences.

St. Louis isn't a better fit.
    Dallas isn't a better fit.
Columbus? The only possible alternative and that's a stretch IMO.

As a Nashville fan, I know exactly what you mean about Chicago and Detroit being their main rivals. However, the Southeast makes too much sense geographically for them not to do it.

    Maybe Detroit.

It doesn't exactly fit the Southeast, but it makes all teams in the division in the same time zone. The Wings would like to move into the Eastern Conference, which does make sense since they are the easternmost team in the Western Conference.

Yeah, the travel for midwestern teams in the Western Conference can be rough. I think they try to schedule some coastal road trips where you can knock off 4-5 games on one trip to cut down on the back and forth.

I remember Toronto whined some years back about actually moving to the Eastern Conference. Lost some games with Detroit and Chicago, but gained dates with Montreal, Ottawa, Boston and the New York teams.

There are tradeoffs in everything. Of course Nashville will bill Detroit and Chicago as its biggest rivals since those are the teams they are normally chasing in the standings, have star power, etc. But it ain't like Nashville is an Original Six when it comes to rivalry. Make the switch and you can build great new rivalries with Washington, Tampa and the other Southeastern teams. Road to a better playoff seed should help ease some of the sting as well.

And you won't have as many real west road trips. Win-win.

I'm with you in that I think Nashville can build new rivalries with the Southeast Division teams. Might take some time, but it'll happen.

It's grainy as shit, but here you go.

I remember those Dallas/Edmonton, Colorado/Edmonton series quite vividly. Amazing hockey.
