May be one of the greatest Game Seven saves ever. And then Marchment coming back to score right away was priceless.

Also ended Andy Moog's run in Dallas. One of the great first round moments of any playoff, IMO. And yes, I am completely biased. So much built up into that from their long playoff drought to being huge underdogs knocking off the Stars, to finally seeing the promise of that youth come to fruition. They also didn't fluke their way through that series. They fought their way through. Even if Dallas had beat them, they were spent. They were not going to go to the cup. That series was so much fun. Most of their series' against the Stars (I think they played them something like six times in eight years in the playoffs or something stupid like that) were outstanding. I hated few players the way I hated that pylon Hatcher and Modano. But especially Hatcher.

Was so pissed when Cujo left after the next season to the 69-point Maple Leafs. If I remember correctly his public reasoning was that he thought they had a better chance to win the cup. This after the Oilers lost to the Stars in the second round of the playoffs in 1998 with a young neucleus in place, although Doug Weight was ready to bolt as well and that was followed by Bill Guerin, Tom Poti, Jason Arnott, et al. I think I would have understood it better at the time if he had said he wanted to go home and play for the team he grew up watching. I now look back and realize he saw the writing on the wall and got out when the getting was good. He then absolutely carried Toronto for the next several years. It was him, Sundin, a 35-year-old Stumpy Thomas and not a whole lot else. They tried to fit a lot of retreads on their final spin in but it was never enough. Hell if he ever had a real team in front of him in his prime, maybe he does win a cup or a Vezina. But he was a one man show from the time he arrived in Edmonton until he left Toronto for Detroit absolutely spent.

Ah sorry, about that ramble, got caught on memory row. Fucking lockout.

    Neat Cujo memories, Beef.

Keenan in his infinite wisdon thought Cujo couldn't play and ran him out of St. Louis. Then, he continued to berate him once he was gone.
Never have figured out Keenan's lingering attempts at bashing Joseph, other than trying to win a losing battle of public opinion.

EDIT: Keep the memories comin'. It gives me a little hockey fix while studying pre-season NBA rosters. ;D

Hard to believe it's already hockey season again. I'm going to try to make it out to some Columbus Cottonmouths games this season. SPHL Hockey. Gotta Love It!

Big game on Sunday. Brampton vs Saginaw and HC is singing BOTH anthems.

You and I should catch a Marlies game sometime.

The SPHL treated me well during my media stint in it. That I wrote the story indicating that the team was moving because of arena issues a few days before I left my gig was jokingly labeled my gift to the paper.

But that team treated me very well, and so did every visitor. Even the opposing coaches and players, and especially one well-known opposing coach.

No idea if we will be there Sunday but if not I will record the game to catch HC nailing the US anthem. (Has been many years since she did that one for the Battalion.)

We should hit the Hammer for a game too!

The NHL is on the verge of breaking into regional leagues and starting over. This bunch can't take another canceled season.

You have no idea what you are talking about. It is nowhere near that. It is definitely in markets it shouldn't be but breaking off into regional leagues and starting over is a gross exaggeration.

So you think it's not going to be an economic catastrophe if they decided to ice another season? No way does a "major" sport do that and not suffer immeasurably.

I didn't say that. That is a far cry from breaking into regional leagues and starting over.
