Colorado signed D Wes O'Neill to a three-year deal. Touted to be the next Chris Pronger, he spurned the Kingston Frontenacs, who took him second overall in 2002, and eventually ended up at Notre Dame. He was drafted by the Islanders in 2004.

I know Forsberg Senior is a somebody, but I have to laugh at the sound of Peter Forsberg's dad calling teams to say his son wants to play for them.

And don't forget the Super Series is just a few days away. This is the 8 game tournament between Canada and Russia (4 games in each country) by the best under 20 players to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the Summit Series, arguably the greatest hockey tournament EVER.

The first choice of Vladislav Tretiak, the current head of the Russian Ice Hockey Federation and the Soviet goaltender in the Summit Series, would have been to stage a repeat of the 1972 event involving each countries' best players.

But the logistics of getting approval from the NHL and the Players' Association to free up the big names so close to training camps was too difficult. A series between under-20 all-star teams from each country was more doable.

"To me, it isn't an exhibition series," Sutter said. "You are still playing for something

Could be a real barn-burner. It's on TSN & Sportsnet and TSN livestreams all their games.

Oh, and John Tavares will be playing for Canuckistan.

That's what I was thinking. Sounds like a guy calling the local AAA Atom team to see if his kid has a shot.

Too bad we down here can't get the games. I'd be up to watching the series.

Hockey brethern – I need my memory jogged. Which Red Wing was it that Belfour did his best to castrate in the playoffs with one quick, clean jerk of his stick between the legs. Was it Holmstrom?

What year? Are you sure you don't mean MacLennan? If it was MacLennan, he took a swing at Johan Franzen.
