The Roman soldier on the white away jersey - a staple since the team's inception in 1992 - has been given a new "game face," symbolizing strength and determination.

"The new look for the Ottawa Senators not only recognizes the team's past success factors, it builds momentum for a new season," said owner Eugene Melnyk. "This is the fighting spirit we plan to bring to the ice in the 2007-08 season and beyond."

Weiss signs with Florida ...

The Florida Panthers have agreed to terms with Stephen Weiss on a 6-year, $18.6 million contract. The deal will pay Weiss $3.1 million per year.

''Stephen is an important part of our core nucleus of offensive talent and we are pleased to have reached a long-term agreement with him,'' said Florida general manager and head coach Jacques Martin. ''He posted career-best numbers last season and we look forward to his continued production and contributions to our organization.''

Yeah, and Gretzky high sticked some guy and it's all a conspiracy, the Leafs are the best, Doug Gilmour's a demigod, blah, blah, blah. They got a few breaks, then they were beaten by a better team.
