Uh, because they want this thing called "ratings"

There are college bowl games that will presumably be up against this and the NHL doesn't have a chance.

Hell, there are a lot of Canadians who'll watch the bowl games.

You stick it into a Saturday time slot in February as HB suggested.

The only competition at that time is NBA which, these days, doesn't amount to much.

Why mess with tradition? I'll get up out of bed around 1 or so, which means the hockey game will be over and I'll start watching football. Damn Eastern time zone anyway, starting a friggin' hockey game at noon. Sheesh.

What's the over/under for their ratings pull for the outdoor game? is a 1.7 rating too high? Personally I can tell you I'll likely be watching a bowl game. That or sleeping off a hangover. Could careless for the parades. If they want to really make the Outdoor Game unique, make it the size of the football field. I know it's a novelty, but for the people in attendance the only cool thing is to be able to say you were there. the sightlines suck because you are so far away from the ice and you have to be like 15 rows up at least to be able to see across the ice and I can only imagine how bad it is for those in the back row. You spend most of the game watching it on the big screen - which begs the question why aren't you doing so at home or at a bar? - plus the players with shitty ice. Does not make for an enjoyable experience.

Outdoor games - keep it as a novelty, a once-in-a-great-while thing. Don't let it lose the intrigue.

But it was a solid call to include the Penguins, if only to give Crosby more network exposure.

i dont think that will be the case. as mentioned, particularly for us in the golden horseshoe who are diehard fans.. i am close enough to the border to enjoy it... whereas the other game was out in alberta...

I agree. They should try to do it in Phoenix.

About the sweater update, on CBC's website, there is a video about the Leafs jersey. Can wait to see what that will be ::)

I watched the video. The crest will be bigger, the TML on the shoulders will no longer be there and they are adding silver outline.

The silver outline....is this supposed to the the silver lining at the end of the next season, if they don't make the playoffs? ;)
