Five of six Canadian teams throw hats into Forsberg lottery:

    http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=218009&hubname=

Five of the six Canadian teams acknowledge they have inquired about Peter Forsberg's status, but as one general manager so aptly puts it, "there's no point in chasing ghosts."

Translation - calls have been placed with the expectation if (or when) Forsberg resurfaces, Canada will be well represented in the frenzy that is sure to ensue.

The Calgary Flames interest has been persistent with the thinking Forsberg and Jarome Iginla would make a nice 1-2 punch.

Both Ottawa and Vancouver are also in the market for a top six forward, but neither team is holding out much hope.

The same can be said about the Edmonton Oilers, whose offence looks like Swiss cheese with the departure of Ryan Smyth, Joffrey Lupul and Petr Sykora.

How much cap room does Toronto have? The Leafs could use a passing center for the power play and second line.

So which one out of Montreal or Toronto inquired about Forsberg?

Great news for me as a Dish Network subscriber: It is apparently going to add NHL Network. Finally a sports channel on which I won't be bombarded by coverage of the overhyped NFL!!! (Yes, I realize the majority of people love the NFL. I'm just not one of them.)

His years with the Predators. They basically burnt him out and traded him away when it was clear he was done. But he was pretty good on a not so good team. After his Predator days he was pretty awful, but I believe a lot of that was due to injuries and diminishing skill.

EDIT: The years would be 99-02

Selanne or Scott Niedermayer -- who would you rather have back on the Ducks this season?

I would rather have Niedermayer, only because that would give the Ducks him, Pronger and Schneider on the PP, blasting away from the blueline.

I didn't see this anywhere, so I figured I'd post it:

Captain Balls-The-Size-Of-Snowpeas has retired, thereby upping the league's guts quotient. http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/sports/AP-HKN-Turgeon-Retires.html?ref=sports

    Without question ... Niedermayer.

    Niedermayer.

In the post Doug Harvey era, there are only three defensemen you can mention in the same breath; Orr, Coffey & Niedermayer.

Ramage's trial has begun in Newmarket:

    http://www.canada.com/calgaryherald/news/story.html?id=b0486158-0294-4d99-a1a6-cc4593aadc7b

A jury of eight men and four women was selected Tuesday to hear criminal charges against former Calgary Flame Rob Ramage who was at the wheel on Dec. 15, 2003, when his passenger, former Chicago Blackhawks defenceman Keith Magnuson, died in a collision with another vehicle.

The trial is expected to begin Monday in Newmarket, Ont., and is expected to last into the first week of October, said Brian Greenspan, Ramage's lawyer.

Ramage has pleaded not guilty to five charges. Three involve the death of Magnuson --impaired driving causing death, dangerous driving causing death and being over the legal blood-alcohol limit. The two other charges relate to minor injuries sustained by a woman in the other vehicle, Greenspan added.
