Flames score three goals! Flames score three goals!

At least that's what I think I saw through the beer haze ...

Flyers looked real good in shutting out the Rangers, 5-0, at MSG tonight. They can skate and have a real nasty edge. Steve Downie landed one of the nastiest overhand rights you'll ever see to the side of Hugh Jessiman's face.

Kings win 3-2 over the Avs in Las Vegas. Kings fly to Austria now.

    Freak injury report (from AP):

Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Dan Boyle is expected to miss four-to-six weeks after undergoing wrist surgery Sunday.
Boyle got hurt in a freak locker room accident Saturday night after the Lightning's 2-1 preseason loss to Washington. The defenseman was distracted while hanging up his skate. The skate slipped off the hook and hit Boyle in his left wrist, severing three tendons.
Boyle, 31, is coming off an impressive regular season in which he played all 82 games, recording 20 goals and 43 assists.

Went to the Montreal, Boston preseason game last night. Montreal won 4-3 and the Metro Centre was electric. Virtually a sell out (almost 10,000). Tomas Plekanec scored a hat trick for the Canadiens and said the last time he scored a hat trick was "when I was nine".

Higgins tallied the other goal while Kobasew, Kessel and Bridgewater's Glen Murray scored for the Bruins (the crowd erupted when Murray scored).

Higgins got a penalty shot but couldn't beat Fernandez

Fight breaks out too in second period with Bruin's Aaron Ward and Canadiens Ryan O'Byrne when O'Byrne crushed Ward into the net after a check.

As for the stars missing, Chara did not play for Boston (I wanted to see how big he really is), and Koivu, Kovalev, Markov and Huet did not play for les Canadiens.

Something else...I saw a CTV report on the Isles in Prince Edward Island and some lady says, "since they came here, they are now my team. I am rooting for them for the rest of the season." First of all, don't you need a better reason than that and secondly, I wonder what Brad Richards would be thinking right about now if he saw that.

All I can say is, "When will this pre-season nonsense end"?

Good Lord, the Leafs had Clemmensen in net the other night. Clemmensen? I didn't even know the Leafs had picked up this guy.

Who in their right mind would shell out regular season prices to see a pre-season game with a guy in net who's probably behind me in the Leafs goalie depth chart

The preseason game I attended (Kings-Ducks on Sept. 15) was courtesy of free tickets from a friend -- that's why.

I'll pay for a few games this year -- at least a few in Newark and a few in Anaheim/Los Angeles areas -- but yeah, preseason NHL ticket prices are as bad as NFL preseason prices.

I'd go too if someone gave me tickets AND gave me beer money. :)

The NHL preseason is a joke. Cut it back to two weeks including training camp.

JR, I like your way of thinking. I would have rather the matchup last year between the Leafs and Sens. Hey did you all know that Mats Sundin and went to the Word on the Street fair here in Halifax last year when they came to town for the preseason game. It is a book fair. He turned a few heads, that's for sure.

I went to a Canes-Caps exhibition game on Sept. 16 and didn't have to pay for my tickets or for parking. And, after two crappy periods, the third period and the OT were very entertaining. Many of the stars were missing, but I'll take a Sunday afternoon of hockey over a Sunday afternoon of pro football any day.
