Your right he was defenseless but watch again he was looking behind him a split second after giving up the puck. Still no excuse for what happened and I'm talking in more general terms not just McAmmond.
Regardless Downie took advantage of the situation and went head hunting. Downie was plain and simply looking for retribution. Downie is a piece of shit and guys like him and Tootoo will eventually get what's coming to them.

"In the OHL, Downie was suspended multiple times for jumping opponents, arguing with referees, instigating fights, bullying, punting a helmet and tossing water bottles. He even fought one of his teammates."

    Sirs, Madames,

Huggy can attest. Downie is the stuff that builds up around the drain in the locker-room showers.

    YHS, etc

Now that the 2008 season has run its course, it's time for The Original 30 to begin to play high stakes games with personnel and finance.

The Canes just signed Eaves to a three-year deal.

Early favourite for brutal off-season already goes to the Maple Leafs. Situation just keeps getting worse and more F------ up as the days go by.
No knock on ROn Wilson, but it's just stupid to hire a new coach (that is if he accepts) before hiring a GM. And if they wait out the year hoping to land Burke, does that mean next season is already considered a write off?

It would be weird if Ron Wilson replaces Paul Maurice in Toronto considering that the two were always butting heads when Wilson was in Washington and Mo was in Raleigh.

Good to see this thread officially resurrected and that an eye is being kept on the Brian Burke-Toronto Maple Leafs-Anaheim Ducks love triangle. Keep in mind there's plenty of drama already going on in the organization with the Ducks realigning their farm teams (ECHL in Bakersfield and AHL in Iowa), and Kevin Dineen, their minor-league coach, being on several NHL coaching short lists.

Glen Wesley has a 1:30 press conference today. You've got to expect that this is a retirement announcement.
