Well, Rangers take Chereponov. And St. Louis just traded up to 18, but not to take Esposito.

I haven't seen the kid play, but I already love Brandon Sutter. He was great in the conference call to Carolina media.

And as one of the guys on TSN pointed out, once someone starts picking a player apart, everyone starts piling on.

Hope you're right. With the exception of Jack Johnson - which may come back to haunt the organization - the recent track record of productive first-round picks has been pretty good.

Hopefully, the name will be an asset and not just a name ... or something like that ...

I am so pissed the Oilers passed on Esposito right now at 15. They could have taken a guy who has first line all-star potential, but instead took a defenceman that has second pairing potential. K-Lowe missed the boat there. Offence was their big problem heading in, they ave plenty of young defensive prospects who saw a lot of time in the NHL last year.
I do, however, like the pick of Sam Gagner at 6. The longer I looked at the prospects heading in, the more I warmed up to him. I justhope he doesn't turn into another Hemsky, theyneed someone who can burry the puck.

Rangers just got the steal of the draft. Going by talent alone, Chereponov should have been a Top-Five pick. However, there are questions if he will sign a NHL contract. Also, should he opt out of his contract with Omsk, will they sue the Rangers and NHL for his rights and cash? Since 2004, the Russian Super League has tried suing to be fairly compensated for losing Nicky Zherdev, Alex Ovechkin, Alexei Mikhnov, Andrei Taratukhin and Evgeni Malkin. Each time, the Russians have left U.S. Federal Courthouses holding, to paraphrase a line from noted philosopher Sonny Corleone, "their dicks in their hands."

Vladimir Tretiak is the president of the Russian Super League and he wants to ratify the NHL-IIHF Player Transfer Agreement. It states that each European team that has a player taken by a NHL organization receives $200,00 in compensation. However, the Russian owners--read Russian mob--doesn't think it's nearly enough. They have demanded millions in return. When the NHL and its clubs say, "No," the Russians sue. And lose.

If he comes to the Rangers for training camp, there's no way he doesn't make the team. I would think Chereponov would be the front-runner for the Rookie of the Year award.

Before the draft, it was reported that Glen Sather was looking to draft a forward. He didn't just select a forward. He got a superstar.

Haven't seen a lot of him but from what I have seen, I support this. Not a first-round ability to skate. Not first-round puck sense.

No better down here. Sutter trades down eight spots to get a Swedish centre with a bad knee? He baffles me.

Leafs finally make a pick and take Dale Mitchell of Oshawa in the third round. I love this kid, great hands and he plays hard. he's got a real nose for the net.
