My guy, who's very well connected in WHL circles, tells me Sutter's only on the Canadian junior super series team because his old man's coaching, there's a game in Red Deer and it's a story TSN can beat to death. I'd be very surprised to see him on the team at Christmas. A guy like Steve Stamkos - to name just one - will blow by him as the season goes on.

Interesting to see Phoenix take Brett McLean. He put up a pile of points playing with John Tavares. Not saying McLean can't make it but you'd think Gretzky, more than just about anyone else, would know how one guy in junior hockey can make his linemates look a lot better than they really are.

I see Trevor Cann of the Petes went to the Avs. Good pick. good goalie.

And my kid's buddy Luca Caputi from the Ice Dogs went to the Penguins in the 4th round

Just catching up with some later picks.

I'll echo JR's thoughts on Trevor Cann. Saw a ton of action as a 17-year-old for a rebuilding Peterborough team and kept them in the playoff hunt to the end when they really had no right to be there. He's one of the best young goalies in junior hockey.

Like Mickey Renaud to Calgary in the fifth. I think he could be up for a bustout year on an emerging Windsor team. Like Chris Terry whom Calgary took in the fifth.

St. Louis sixth rounder Anthony Peluso is tough but I don't think he can play either forward or D and he's tried both in Erie. Dustin Jeffreuy had a real breakout year in the Soo. Could be a steal for the Pens in the sixth. Zack Torquato had a tough year last year, mostly off the ice, but he could be another late-round gem for Detroit, which does a great job of finding them.

And Brendan Smith, the 27th pick (Detroit) is another Mimico lad.

Still fuming over Pierre's thought that the Blue Jackets did not make much of a splash by getting Voracek.
I am very familiar with him here, and he is a top rated player with the Mooseheads. I also think he is a great fit with the Blue Jackets.

I still can't believe Sakic was picked 15th in his draft year. He has always played like a first round draft pick.

    Cansport:

It's Maguire for heaven's sakes. Don't have a coronary over what the guys says.

And as others have said, after the 10th pick of the first round, every player's a lottery.

Luc Robitaille went three rounds after Tom Glavine. :)

    How good is he?
I think I read he's going to Wisconsin this year to play. I heard he's a smooth skating offensive d-man.

He is as advertised although I have heard rumours (not strong ones, mind you) that he was going to play in the OHL next season. I think he will be a Badger in 2007-08.

Doug MacLean was a joke on TSN.

When he wasn't yammering on about losing his job (I'm surprised he had it as long as he did) he was ripping other team's picks becaus his guys didn't like a player. Now I know not every team is going to agree on the merits of every player but aside from his perenially high first-round picks (because he was never close to the playoffs) MacLean's draft record with the Blue Jackets is hardly exemplary.

Sorry JR, that was an honest typo. Still Maguire doesn't know what he is talking about half the time. Yeah, you are right, as we have seen the top picks don't always end up doing well in the big leagues,
Now I have to go take my coronary medication. ;) ::)
